DAILY GK UPDATES: 18th APRIL 2012

1.Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today issued the New Regulations for Mobile Banking in order to ensure faster and reliable communication for banking through mobile phones. 
2. International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised World Economic Growth for 2012 to 3.5%, up from its previous forecast of 3.3%. India's economic growth forecast has also been lowered to 6.9 per cent in 2012, from 7 per cent projected earlier, on weak global and domestic demand.
3. India will test fire its 5,000 km range Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Agni-5 from a test range in Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha tomorrow.
4. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) instructed commercial banks to reduce their exposure to gold loan companies to 7.5% of their capital funds from the existing 10%. 
5. IDBI Bank today cut its deposit rates by 10-50 basis points across various maturities. The bank also reduced lending rate benchmarks (base rate & benchmark private lending rate) by 25 basis points.
6. Supreme Court today upheld the criteria of the Election Commission (EC) for granting symbols to unrecognised registered political parties.
7. Defence Ministry in a meeting chaired by Defence Minister A K Antony decided to set up 3 new committees to accelerate procurements and border infrastructure projects. 
8. India today pitched for full membership of export control entities, the four multilateral regimes- Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), Australia Group and the Wassenaar Arrangement.
9. Retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index rose to 9.47 per cent in March which was 8.83 per cent in February because of higher prices of milk, vegetables, protein-based items and edible oil products. 
10. Veteran litterateur, freedom fighter and former Minister Nityananda Mohapatra passed away at the age of 100.
11. Maldives today announced to conduct Presidential Election in July 2013.
12. BJP won All Three Municipal Corporation Elections in Delhi bagging 138 of the 272 wards while the Congress was voted to victory in 78 wards. 
13. Assam government today initiated a series of measures to achieve 100 percent enrollment of girls in class ninth and tenth under Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan by 2017.
14. All India Police Rifle and Pistol shooting Championship started at Reoti shooting range of Border Security Force at Indore, M.P. today. More than 700 shooters from different paramilitary forces are participating in the event.
15. Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr Jitendra Singh today flagged off the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Ganga Rafting expedition at ITBP headquarters in New Delhi. 
16. Enforcement Directorate registers 14 cases under anti money laundering laws against former Uttar Pradesh Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and others in the National Rural Health Mission scam.
