Detailed Analysis: IBPS PO 2012

So, Finally the IBPS 2.0 is over... and its time to do some anaylysis. BankersAdda, in association with Bank Power (A premier institute for IBPS Bank Exams), brings you an expert analysis of the IBPS PO Exam conducted today (17-June-2012) -

This years IBPS PO Exam was relatively difficult than the IBPS PO 2011. Although, pattern of questions was more or less same and certainly, this time, conscious effort was made to increase the difficulty level and make it more calculation intensive.

As already declared by IBPS, the paper was divided into five sections viz. Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, English, General Knowledge and Computer.

There was a total of 250 questions to be solved in a time span of 150 minutes. One mark was awarded for each correct answer for all sections, except English Language Section, wherein each question was for 1/2 marks. There was a 1/4 negative marking for wrong answers.

The distribution of 250 questions over the various areas is as follows –
  • General English – 50 questions – 25 marks
  • General Knowledge – 50 questions – 50 marks
  • Quantitative Aptitude – 50 questions – 50 marks
  • Logical Reasoning – 50 questions – 50 marks
  • Computer – 50 questions – 50 marks
  • Descriptive - 25 Questions
General English Section: This was a moderate difficulty level althiough bit lengthier section. Pattern was more or less same as IBPS 1.0 and Reading comprehension part will be the overall deciding factor.

Reasoning section was a relatively tough and puzzles were taking more than usual time. Also, section was  dominated by Verbal  Logic - Assumptions, cause and effect and arguments.

Quantitative Aptitude – This  section was of moderate difficulty. Although questions required calculations to be done but it was a manageable section.

General Knowledge This section was Relatively Easy. Quations from Banking Terminology and Awareness dominated the section. 10-12 Questions were asked from Current affairs part.

Computer Knowledge: This was easy easy/moderate section. This time questions are not direct but needed good knowledge of the system to answer. For someone who has computers background, it was easy only but a non computer background candidate may find it slightly deifficult. Overall, this section could have given maximum marks in minimum time duration.

Descriptive Section: It was also of moderate Level. Essays included -
1. Growth of banking in India
2. Microfinance companies in India
3. Construction & development in India through Green initiative.
Letter writing questions included -
1)write a letter to your brother/sister n explain the significance of census after every 10 years.
2)Write a letter to authority tell him about the lack of education facility in your area.
3)Write a letter to the editor of newspaper in which you describe that a common man can bring revolution(give example).

Overall a total score of 148+ (or 133 + without descriptive) can fetch you interview calls from most of the PSU Banks. Although, as per our analysis of this paper, candidates having a score of 130 + can also expect calls from atleast 2-3 Banks.

Please note, above mentioned score is the actual total score. IBPS does not give actual score but gives Total Weighted Score - TWS (arrived after doing standardization of scores, as per the method given on IBPS website).

    2. See Guys what most of u have confusion is about the scoring of IBPS for ex one of the comments was my friend did only 21 questions and got 38 marks. Now let me explain suppose if the topper or the person who performed best in the exam did only 30 questions and with 100% accuracy then the following will be the calculation.
That 30 marks = 50marks(100 percentile)and for general only 24 marks is needed for qualification
so 30/50*24=14.4 marks in actual neede to qualify that section likewise if ur friend did 21 questions with 100% accuracy then his IBPS score would be 50/30*21=35 marks in scorecard

Standard Deviation is used to give the topper in each session 50 marks and others relatively. So please be sure before you post things like this.

This is bullshit. agar paper upsc ke level ka paper hi banana tha to po ki kya jaroorat thi. That paper was above po level this is totally unjustice those who have got 150 marks in,the previous po exam , will be benefited bcoz of that . IBPS thing is not working this system should be squashed. Eligibilty was grduation in any stream how can a bsc person know what is multiplexing?

  37. I seriously do not get the idea of criticising people who are saying they have done fairly well. What do you intend to say? No one on earth was capable of doing the paper good. If you could not do well it does not imply everyone else also could not. Secondly if no one is capable, then there would be no selections in exams like IAS. Stop criticising and abusing people and concentrate on exams.

it should be like that if you have have attempted 1 answer correct you will get 1 marks but if u get it wrong then u lose 1+(.25)=1.25.

this is what get converted to linear transformation that 1.75 u get for each correct and if u have got it wrong then u will lose 1.75+.25 or 2.50 according where others candidate stands w.r.t. you in the examination.

So kindly be patient and wait till the banks publish their advertisement. and what i remember there were some banks who also took candidates securing 55% in grads. so don't loose hope. all d best.
