1.    Ram Navami is being celebrated today
i. The festival of Ram Navami, which symbolises the birth of Lord Rama, is being celebrated with traditional fervour and devotion in different parts of the country.
ii. It is believe that Ram is the 7th incarnation of the Dashavatara of Vishnu.
iii. Years later Lord Rama was married to Sita on the Vivaha Panchami.
iv. The Rama Navami festival falls in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar.
v. It is also known as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations.
vi. To the devotees, Lord Ram is a symbolic representation of the positivity in creation and took birth to restore order within the entire creation.
vii. During the time of his birth the astral constellations were such that a phenomenal force could take a body. And a similar astral constellation returns on this date, making it the time of a very powerful vortex of energy for all those who choose to benefit from it.

2.    India and China held their First Dialogue on Afghanistan in Beijing
i. India and China on 18 April 2013 held their first dialogue on Afghanistan in Beijing in a bid to evolve a joint strategy to deal with much feared possible return of Taliban and al-Qaeda after the departure of US troops in 2014.
ii. India and China agreed that Afghan issue concerns regional security and stability. China and India are two important countries in the region and consultations on Afghanistan help them to coordinate positions, deepen cooperation and contribute to early settlement of the issue.
iii. This is the first time that China held such a dialogue with India on Afghanistan, expanding consultations with its close ally Pakistan and Russia

3.    KP Bhaskar, the Indian Classical Dance Maestro Died
i. KP Bhaskar, the Indian classical dance maestro died on 17 April 2013 due to heart-related ailment. He was 88 years of age. 

About KP Bhaskar
i. KP Bhaskar was born in Kerala in the year 1925. 
ii. He went to Singapore in 1952 and there he became one among first few Indian dance instructors.
iii. He started his academy with the Bharathanatyam for the beginners. Later, his academy taught various forms of the classical dances. 
iv. KP Bhaskar remained the President of Singapore Kathakali Yogam for 20 years. 
v. KP Bhaskar founded Nrityalaya Aesthetics Society in 1987. 
vi. He also won Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Meritorious Service Medal).

4.    Aruna Bahuguna became First Women Special DG of CRPF
i. Aruna Bahuguna, Senior IPS Officer on 18 April 2013 was appointed as the new Special Director General of CRPF, India’s largest paramilitary force.
ii. With her appointment to the office of the special DG, Aruna Bahuguna (a 1979-batch Andhra Pradesh Cadre Officer) became the first women officer to be appointed to the top position in the hierarchy of the Force. 
iii. At present, Bahuguna is serving as the chairperson of AP Police Housing Corporation. With this appointment in the office, Bahuguna will assume charge as number two in the largest central police force and will be in-charge of operations.

ii. She served as the additional DG in the AP Special Police and before that in-charge of the fire services

5.    Muthoot Fincorp to Launch 100 Crore Non-Convertible Debenture (NCB) Issue
i. Muthoot Fincorp, which is actually a part of Muthoot Pappachan Group, announced launching 100 crore Rupees non-convertible debenture (NCB) issue in order to fund the expansion of microfinance as well as small and medium enterprise (SME) business. 
ii. With the launch of this non-convertible debenture (NCB) issue, Muthoot Fincorp will hit the bond market.
iii. Microfinance as well as SME business of Muthoot Fincorp are grown as the part of diversification from the gold loans.
iv. Muthoot Fincorp, at present, has 300 crore Rupees microfinance portfolio, which the company planned to double by end of 2013-14 fiscal year.
v. Muthoot Fincorp also planned to built the SME as well as micro SME business in alliance by approximately 300 crore Rupees.

6.    Indian MPs to play T20 match against Mumbai Heroes
i. The IPL fever seems to have gripped the Indian parliamentarians as well and they are all set to play a friendly Twenty20 match against the Mumbai Heroes, the cricket team of Bollywood, on May 20 at the picturesque HPCA stadium in Dharamsala.
ii. The cricket match, to be organised under the aegis of the Constitution Club of India, will be an annual affair
iii. “It is a new initiative to promote sports in the country. Film stars are widely followed and so we have joined hands with Bollywood in this initiative,” BJP MP from Hamirpur and captain of the MPs team
iv. We have invited the Mumbai Heroes for the match and we are honoured that they have accepted our invitation.  We had our first meeting today but in near future we may rope in teams from other walks of life as well," said Anurag Thakur, who is also the joint secretary of the BCCI.
v. He also said that Sachin Tendulkar, who is now a Rajya Sabha MP, is automatically a part of the team and hopes in future he will turn for the parliamentarians.
vi. The Indian parliamentarians’ team include a few former India cricketers in Mohammad Azharuddin, Kirti Azad and Navjot Singh Sidhu and will also have young MPs like Kailash Singh Deo, Dushayant Singh, Kuldeep Singh Bishnoi, Deepender Singh Hooda.
vii. Mumbai Heroes captain and Bollywood actor, Sunil Shetty said the film industry hopes to work together with the MPs to make this event a success.
viii. The team from Bollywood will have stars like Ritesh Deshmukh, Sohail Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Irrfan Khan among others.

7.    Twitter launched a New Music Service called #Music
i. Twitter on 18 April 2013 unveiled a new music app called #Music which will recommend tracks on the basis of who you follow on the social network.
ii. Songs will be played directly in the app via services such as Spotify, Radio and iTunes.
iii. The new software displays songs which user’s friends are at present listening to and also suggestions from artists.
iv. It follows moves by other social networks like Facebook to include music recommendations into their services. 
v. In 2012, Spotify announced its own follow system, but the functionality is not rolled out to users on mobile yet
vi. #Music will be available initially in the UK and Ireland, Canada, US, Australia and New Zealand but later on more countries will be added in the list.

8.    Chidambaram, Aamir Khan among Time's most influential list
i. Finance Minister P Chidambaram and actor Aamir Khan have been named by Time magazine among the 100 most influential people in the world in its annual list of global achievers that also includes teenaged Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai and US President Barack Obama
ii. Describing Indian politicians as typically being "warm and fuzzy, chronically late and terribly imprecise", Time says Chidambaram, 67, is "detail-oriented, works from 8 to 8 and has a reputation for getting a lot done."
iii. In a profile of Khan written by Academy award-winning musician AR Rahman, the 48-year-old actor has been described as a "straightforward" man and a "man of his word" in a "world of false diplomacy and evasiveness." 
iv. Khan was the star of the Oscar-nominated film "Lagaan" in 2001. 
v. His TV show, 'Satyamev Jayate', is "part journalism and part talk show" and confronted India's deepest social ills, from sexual abuse to caste discrimination. 
vi. Activist Malala Yousafzai, 15, is the youngest to have made it to the list.

9.    'Pink Floyd' album art designer Storm Thorgerson dies
i. Storm Thorgerson, who designed art for iconic Pink floyd albums 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here', has died following a lengthy battle with cancer.
ii. He was 69. Thorgerson began his career in the late 1960s with UK design group Hipgnosis.
iii. "He had been ill for some time with cancer, though he had made a remarkable recovery from his stroke in 2003.
iv. He is survived by his mother, Vanji, his son Bill, his wife, Barbie Antonis, and her two children Adam and Georgia.
