1.    Assamese 'Gamosa' enters Guinness Records
i. The Assamese 'Gamosa' on Monday etched its name in the Guinness Book of World Records with weavers from the state creating a 1455 metre long motif depicting the traditional towel.
ii. An initiative of Jorhat-based Abhijeet Baruah and his team, the effort was endorsed by officials of the Guinness Records at the lawns of India Gate in New Delhi as the longest hand woven sheet of silk.
iii. Gamosa, with red motifs is not just a mere towel 'something to wipe the body with' (Ga = body, mosa = to wipe) as it literally means but an integral part, and symbolizes the pride, identity, life and culture of the Assamese society.
iv. "Our aim was to let the world know the significance of our gamosa. So this gamosa (1.5 km long and 26 inches wide) was woven in Assam containing a complete overview of our state, our culture and society," .
v. The earlier record was a 110 metre long sheet of silk woven by an Indonesian trio in 2010.

2.    Krishna Kumar Natrajan appointed as the New Chief of NASSCOM
i. Krishnakumar Natarajan, CEO and Director of Mindtree on 8 April 2013 was appointed as the Chairman of Nasscom for the year 2013-14.
ii. He succeeded N Chandrasekaran, MD and CEO of TCS, who was the Chairman for the year 2012-13. 

NASSCOM Foundation is a non-profit organization that represents the Indian IT BPO industry and it played a leading role in developing the Indian IT-BPO industry to reach mark of 100 billion dollar industry.

3.    Amarjit appointed UPSC secretary; Bhattacharyya SSC chairman
i. Senior IAS officers Amarjit Singh and Amitava Bhattacharyya were today appointed as secretary in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and chairman of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) respectively. 
ii. Both Singh and Bhattacharyya are Gujarat cadre officers of 1982 and 1980 batch respectively.
iii. Singh is presently additional secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy. Bhattacharyya is holding the charge of Secretary, UPSC. 

NOTE: i. UPSC conducts examinations to select candidates for various central services including the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS) among others. 
ii. Whereas, SSC conducts selection for Group B (non gazetted officers), Group C (section officers and other clerical posts) and Group D (peons) for different offices under the central government. 

4.    World's Largest Private Yacht named Azzam Launched by German Shipyard
i. A German shipyard named Azzam, the world’s largest private yacht, overshadowing the previous record holder, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich‘s 533-foot Eclipse
ii. The yacht is designed by Nauta Yachts in Italy and is constructed by German company Lurssen Yachts.
iii. Azzam is almost two football fields long and rivals the size of some cruise ships. It took four years to complete the super yacht from concept to construction.
iv. With 94000 horsepower generated from two gas turbines ad two diesel engines, the Azzam can reach speeds of over 55.5kph, which makes it one of the fastest yachts in the world.

5.    Odisha decided to set up First Public Health University in India
i. Odisha on 8 April 2013 decided to set up the first public health university in India.
ii. This university will be set up under Public-Private Partnership mode at Gramadiha village in Jatni tehsil on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
iii. An MoU has been signed in this regard by State Health Department and Asian Institute of Public Health in Bhubaneshwar.
iv. In the first phase, 100 crore rupees will be invested in this University. The University will offer master and postdoctoral degree, diplomas and certificates courses in public health and public health management to both medical and non-medical professionals.

6.    Official Online Portal of INTRA-IPS Launched in New Delhi
i. The official online portal of INTRA-IPS was launched by S. Jayaraman (Special Secretary-Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs at New Delhi on 8 April 2013.
ii. The address of the INTRA-IPS online portal is http://intraips.gov.in
iii. The Ministry of Home Affairs will issue new e-mail addresses to All Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. 

Features of this new online portal are as follows:
i. The online portal will facilitate information about the Indian Police Service Civil List, Immovable Property Returns, Latest notifications/circulars, Rules, Police Medal Awardees list etc. related to all IPS officers all over India.

7.    AISECT launched a Job Portal called Rojgar Mantra.com
i. Vocational education, services and e-governance network, AISECT launched a job portal called RojgarMantra.com which will cater mainly to people in rural and semi urban India.
ii. Rojgar Mantra will put emphasis on filling local, entry level job requirements of private and public enterprises at the town, district and block levels.
iii. It has over 2 lakh applicants already registered with the website.
iv. AIS ECT is planning to have over 10 lakh job seekers and an equal number of jobs registered with Rojgar Mantra in the next 5 years.

8.    Cairn India makes new oil discovery in Rajasthan block 
i. Cairn India has said it has made the 26th oil discovery in its prolific Rajasthan block, the discovery follows allowing the company to explore for oil on block well after expiry of the exploration phase.
ii. Cairn Chief Executive Officer P Elango said the discovery in the block "reaffirms our belief that an aggressive exploration drilling programme will help harness the full potential of theBarmer Basin in Rajasthan."
iii. The company said in a statement that:Cairn India has made its latest oil discovery, the 26th discovery so far in the RJ-ON-90/1 block, following recent policy clarity by Government of India (GoI) to conduct exploration activity in development blocks,".

9.    IPL6: Rajasthan Royals defeat KKR by 19 runs
i. Maintaining their impeccable 'home record' against Kolkata Knight Riders Rajasthan Royals outclassed the defending champions by 19 runs to register their second successive victory in the Pepsi Indian Premier League in Jaipur on Monday.
ii. Defending  a total of 144, the Royals' pace attack performed as a unit to bowl out KKR for 125 in 19 overs.
iii. Only Eoin Morgan tried his best with a gutsy 51 off 38 balls (3x4, 3x6) but didn't get support from the other end.
