Success Story of Nilesh Dalal

Nilesh Dalal gave 19 exams and struggled for 4 years before he was selected as Assistant in RBI. Here, he shares his success story with BankersAdda.

First of all I thank Bankersadda to provide us A to Z of banking including notes, quiz, updates, discussion platform, guidance, interview tips, etc.

I am Nilesh Dalal, basically from a small town Parbhani in Maharashtra. I belong to a middle class
family & my father is a retired school teacher. I completed B.Tech (Agri Engg) & MBA.

I appeared 19 exams in banking sector in 4 years, including exams appeared during MBA. Out of these I cracked 11 exams( SBI Clerk, SBI Asso Clerk, ICICI PO, Syndicate AMRD, IBPS PO, IBPS CLERK, IBPS SO (Agri), ESIC UDC, IBPS PO 2nd, IBPS RRB PO,RBI Assistant). I got selected in 5 (Bank of Maharashtra Clerk, Dena Clerk, ESIC UDC, RBI Assistant, IDBI PO (IBPS PO 2nd )) , joined 2 (ESIC, RBI) of them, & now working in RESERVE BANK OF INDIA as a Assistant.

During this period, I struggled a lot, financial weakness, less source of income at home, father’s Cancer treatment, continuous failures in exams, pending education & other loans, slow procedure of IBPS, etc.

In short, I wanted to say that, even a non-scholar guy, average student  like me can learn & achieve in banking sector. You just need to decide & dedicate yourself & concentrate on your goal. I had to give 19 exams, but I proved that “Nothing is impossible” by getting 170 score (72.2 %) in IBPS PO 2nd to all who used to tell me to leave banking preparation as its not your cup of tea. The simple Mantraa is “Practice, practice & practice

I got habitual to see the Bankersadda twice a day. Because, I get everything regarding banking in this.  I suggest Bankersadda to provide us special guidance for RBI Grade B exam.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
Nilesh P. Dalal
Assistant
Monetary Policy Department
Reserve Bank of India

Congrats!! It's good to hear a success story. However, can you share details on what was your plan of attack, what books, material, videos you followed. Bankersadda is very good. But, a successful person putting his thoughts on how he scored 172 needs to be known to all. At last, we all know practice makes man (for that matter women) success!!

Hi Nilesh Sir please tell me which option is better Bank PO or RBI assistant.Because i read somewhere that RBI assistant is clerical post and have very slow promotion chances.

Anonymous said...

We cant compare Bank PO with RBI Assistant. it depends on perception. One can like Reputation of working in Country's Central Bank, other person would not like back office, many aspirants will prefer to work as PO, as it is also a prestigious job.

one can get huge growth with good performance any where..
so, I suggest, wherever you go,perform at your best.

Nilesh

No difference,RBI paper was simple than Bank PO paper. and both are conducted by IBPS.

Same problem I also faced.
Just give special attention on interview preparation.
Whatever you think in your mind, try to think in English, it really works. Your English is really good, u need only presentation & confidence that you can talk.

Write down your introduction, background,SWOT analysis & answers of questions like why banking? etc & then practice.

Dear friend,
don't worry about the gap after MBA. IBPS panel asked me same question & i told them reality dat i have dedicated my self for banking & even i haven't applied or appeared any recruitment process other than banking.

in between if u r doing any business or helping 2 parents in their business, u can mention, but be prepared for relevant questions in that field.

In commercial banks you have to maintain customer relationship. customers of RBI can be said as central & state governments & commercial banks.
Work in RBI, can be data collection from banks, analysis, statistics, reports, supervision & inspection of banks & NBFCs,NEFT, RTGS, Forex, etc

Anonymous said...

Dear friend,
According to me, presentation of your knowledge is more imp than ur command on English. So, u can talk in Hindi, but talk fluently with confidence.
U can justify if asked,"english is my weakness, im working to improve d same, also, being an agri oficer, i need to deal wid local farmers in local language so right now this barrier wil not affect in my duties."

U must have knowledge abt CACP, APMC, role of agri oficer, type of land, crops, yield at ur place.(agri is backbone of our economy. It is 2nd contributor after services in our GDP (14% aprox).

I have been asked on all these topics, also be prepared wid ur Intro, SWOT analysis, hobies, why agri oficer, etc..

Why Agri oficer:
All I would like to do is available in this job, like-
1) partly field work & office work
2) comunication wid farmers
3) social work, by givin knowldge to farmers abt importance of savings, loan, KCC, subsidy facilities, etc

all d best

Nilesh

dear nilesh, i m confused ki bank po select kiya jaye ya RBI assistant.
because bank po ki job kafi hard working hoti hai, sunday ko bhi work karna padta hai,
mai ye janna chahta hu ki RBI me work load kitna hai, job timings kya hai, RBI officer grade B me kya timings hai? holidays ki kya conditions hai.
please explain.

Anonymous said...

why did you leave idbi po job for doing job as a clerk in RBI..? dont u think PO in any bank has more status & salary than clerk in RBI?

Anonymous said...

I was in chaos, as i feel IDBI is a very nice bank, & my 1st preference too.

But, considering my preference to back office job with good career growth, stability & long term benefits I continued current job.

regards,
Nilesh

Anonymous said...

Work load & responsibility increases wid your post at any bank.
Job timings are almost similar but here we have 5 days week.
Give both exams, & think on your priorities, some one can like back office work, or 0ther one may be interested in public contact job.

Bank PO is more challenging job.

Many of them Joined rbi even after resgining from PO...
Thats the gud move

Generally they don't ask regarding gap.

If you have done
some activities/job/classes/preparation/some family sharable matter during these 2 years/ ill health of father or mother during this period, etc

You can share innocently one or more reasons of the above which are relevant to you.

Congratulations for ur selection in RBI.I also liked RBI in 2013 i gave RBI gr B officer exam but didnt succeded
.I am thinking that it is better to prepare for RBI assistant than for RBI gr B because it is very tough as the pattern is UPSC based and for preparing RBI assistant what are the key elements on which i should focus and is there any sectional cutoff in the exam.
What is the pattern for RBI exam how much Questions are asked of Maths,English,Reasoning,GA,Computers please reply
