IBPS Clerk 3 : Insights from Previous year

Dear Readers,

IBPS Clerk 3 notification is out, and we hope that you have begun your preparations in right earnest. Since IBPS Clerk examinations and vacancies are announced at State Level we have done a small analysis below to give you an idea of the no. of vacancies and minimum Cut Offs which have been declared for the IBPS Clerk 2 examination. We also attempt to answer some of the questions which have been raised by our various readers.

Q. Are the vacancies for IBPS Clerk 3 going to be declared on a national level or state level ?

Ans. IBPS Clerk exams have vacancies at a state level, so you have to choose a particular state to apply from.

Q. What factors should decide which particular state I should apply from  ?

Ans.

Knowledge of Local Language

The most important factor which determines your choice of state should be your comfort in the local/official language of that state. Since a bank clerk profile requires public dealing, you should be conversant with the local language in order to interact with customers and carrying out your work. Proficiency in local language can be tested at the time of interview.

Proficiency is defined by the ability to read, write and speak the official language of the state concerned from which you are applying.

As per Pt. III on Page 3 of the IBPS Clerk 3 notification

“Proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT (candidates should know how to read/ write and speak the Official Language of the State/UT) for which vacancies a candidate wishes to apply is preferable. (Some questions may be put at the time of interview to ascertain the  candidate’s familiarity with the Official Language of the State/UT)

Willingness to stay long term in the state of your choice

If selected , you will be posted in a bank branch of that state which you chose to apply from, it may not be possible for you to relocate out of that state at least in the short term.

For example if you apply from Uttar Pradesh, you can be allotted any branch in any city  from the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Q. How many vacancies are there for IBPS Clerk and what is the minimum cut off in each state likely to be ?

Ans. This data is not public yet, however, we have compiled some data for Selected states  for IBPS Clerk 2 to give you an idea about statewise vacancies and cut offs ( Please note that this data pertains to IBPS Clerk 2 and may not be accurately reflective of IBPS Clerk 3).

We have taken the Second Allotment marks ( recently declared by IBPS in August 2013), as the minimum cut off, please note that this cut off may change subsequently if a third round of allotment is declared by IBPS for IBPS Clerk 2 examination.

There is not much difference between the states , so you should apply from whichever state you feel comfortable. However  as a trend the cut offs for UP, MP , Rajasthan and  New Delhi are on the higher side probably due to a larger no. of applicants from these states, however the no. of vacancies is also higher in these states.

However, this should not discourage you, you should be confident of your abilities to succeed in any state which you choose to apply from.

All The best
