Rules for hoisting the Indian National flag:

In India ,very few people  are aware about ‘Flag code of India’, which governs the usage of the National flag by the citizens set up by The Ministry of Home affairs. These codes have been laid down regarding the usage and hoisting of the National flag in order to prevent its denigration.

  • The National flag must  be hoisted at a suitable height and whenever the flag is hoisted, it should occupy the position of honor and be distinctly placed.
  • The National Flag  should be flown on any government  building on all days including Sundays and holidays from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of the weather conditions. The flag should always be hoisted briskly and lowered slowly and ceremoniously. The hoisting and lowering should be simultaneous with the bugle calls.
  • When the flag is flown during a public meeting, the speaker should face the audience and the flag should be displayed behind and to the right of the speaker or flat against the wall above and behind the speaker.
  • No other flag should be hoisted higher than the National flag The National flag should never be displayed with the saffron band down. The flag should not be allowed to touch the ground or trail in water. The flag should not be displayed or fastened in a manner which might damage it.

Respect Your National Flag |_5.1There are many more Rules regarding hoisting National  Flag, but the biggest question that I have came across while writing this article is that ,Are we following these rules? Are we really consider flying national flag is our own pride?.Why we talk about National flag only on some occasion like Republic day or Independence day?.These all questions needs to be answered by us and no one can answer better than us.
Recently Current government has made some changes regarding hosting National Flag , as per the resolution advocated by HRD Ministry  all the central universities, including JNU, will have to fly the Tricolor and the decision was taken to “symbolizes a strong and united India” in the institutions of higher education. But Instead of taking  it another opportunity to show your respect toward your national Flag many people started raising questions on it , many talk about autonomy and some talk about timing of hosting of Flag. Moreover , none of the political party came forward and advocate for the hosting National Flag.

Respect Your National Flag |_6.1We talk  about Patriotism , are we only feel patriotic when India play any cricket match and thousands of Flag Fly high in the stadium , is this we called patriotism?.Is it only responsibility of Indian Soldiers to look over make sure that that the Indian National Flag Fly high in adverse condition also and they even don’t care if they have to laid their life also.
There are many more questions that one has to ask from himself only,If we can’t respect our own national flag then we doesn’t deserve to be called INDIAN…Think about it and when ever you see your national flag feel proud on yourself that you are an INDIAN.
