“Hotter, drier, wetter. Face the Future.”

Dear Readers,

World Meteorological Organisation says “Hotter, drier, wetter. Face the Future.” Yes! the statement is very true in the present context of our earth.

Even after celebrating so many days related to environment, we are not getting concerned about our planet as much as is needed.
You can see some examples of the nature's revenge to human beings in the pictures provided in this post. Every species, every organism and everything suffers the consequences although the culprit is a single species "Homo-sapiens".
## Since 1961, World Meteorological Day is being celebrated on 23rd March every year.
This year's theme,
'Hotter, drier, wetter. Face the Futurewas chosen to illustrate the reality of climate change. It highlights that, without urgent action to cut emissions, the trend of increasing temperatures and the frequency and intensity of extreme events will accelerate.

## Similarly, the Environment day is celebrated every year on 5th June.
The theme for Environment day 2016 was "fight against the illegal trade in wildlife for life (zero tolerance for the illegal trade in wildlife)focusing on save the life of wild animals like elephants, rhinos, gorillas, whales, sea turtles, orangutans, pangolins, rosewoods, helmeted hornbills, tigers including other species. This year’s slogan is “Go Wild for Life” to raise the voice against wildlife crime and damages caused by it and take actions to prevent it.
## Moreover, World Ozone Day is celebrated on September 16th to mark the day back in 1987 when the Montreal Protocol was signed to reduce the substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
Theme of world ozone day'2016 yet to be decided.
Theme for 2015 was "30 Years of Healing the Ozone Together - Ozone: All there is between you and UV.”

## However, World Wetland Day is celebrated every year on 2nd Feb to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) in Ramsar, Iran, on 2 February 1971.
Wetlands play an important role in the processes that keep our landscapes healthy and productive. They support industries such as agriculture, fisheries, forestry and tourism by supplying water for crops, stock and people, maintaining water quality, providing habitat for commercial species and having cultural and recreational values. Wetlands host a huge variety of life, protect our coastlines, provide natural defences against river flooding or storm surges and store carbon dioxide to regulate climate change.

Theme for World Wetland Day was "Wetlands for our future: sustainable livelihoods"

## Also, World Forestry Day is Celebrated on 21 March to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and of trees outside forests.

Theme for 2016: "Forests and water"

## In the coming days, we will celebrate a Vanamohatsav in the 1st week of July i.e. 1st July to 7th July'2016 for the purpose of saving the mother earth.

## One more very important day "World Earth Day 2016" is particularly important as 196 nations across the world signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, set out in COP21 in December 2015. The historic agreement saw countries pledge to limit global warming to below 2C on pre-industrial levels. From 22 April, it will be open for signatures for one year. The agreement will come into effect in 2020.

Theme for World Earth Day 2016: "Trees for the Earth"

There are many more days related to environment. Some of the important ones are as below:

17th June
World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought
14th December
National Energy  Conservation Day
11 July
World Population Day
1st week of October

It is now your assignment to find out the themes of the above mentioned days for the year 2016.

These are the days which we celebrate in order to save our Earth and are very important from the exam point of view. Do not just celebrate these days on a specific day only, but, remember the motive whole year and take steps which you can take at your level in order to protect our Earth.
