On 31st October whole country is celebrating the Rashtriya
Ekta Diwas
that is the National Unity Day. This is the tribute to Sardar
Vallabhai Patel who united small kingdoms after the India freedom movement.
Sardar Patel was popularly known as the Iron Man of India.  He played a leading role in the Indian
freedom struggle and became the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister
of India.
He is credited with achieving political integration of India. In 1991
the grateful nation conferred upon him the honour of Bharat Ratna.

Vallabhbhai Patel was born on October 31, 1875 in Nadiad, a
small village in Gujarat. His father Jhaverbhai was a farmer and mother Laad
Bai was a simple lady. Vallabhbhai wanted to become a barrister. To make his
dreams a realty he had to go to England but he didn’t have any financial means
and then he arranged books from a lawyer and passed the law examination with
flying colours. Patel was very impressed by Gandhiji and started participating
in the freedom movement.

By his great wisdom he consolidated the small kingdoms.
There were a lot of problems connected with the reunion of the numerous states
into India. Sardar Patel’s untiring efforts towards the unity of the country
brought success. Due to the achievement of this massive task, Sardar Patel got
the title of ‘Iron Man’. He united a scattered nation without any bloodshed. He
was encouraged by Mahatma Gandhi in all his work.
Friends, he was filled with Passion and Enthusiasm and he succeeded. Despite many challenges, he always kept his calm and crossed every hurdle. As an aspirant, we can learn a lot. We may not become Iron Man, but we can try.
