Directions (Q. 1 – 5) : In each question given below is given a statement followed by two courses of action numbered I & II. A course of action is a step or administrative decision to be taken for improvement, follow-up or further action in regard to the problem, policy, etc on the basis of the information given in the statement to be true and then decide which of the courses of action logically follows for pursuing.

1. Statement:Majority of students have failed in the final examination in South Asian University.
Courses of Action: I. The faculty should be immediately retrenched.
 II. The university should be closed down temporarily.

2. Statement:Crores of rupees are spent every year on social welfare schemes, but the plans fail to deliver.
Courses of Action: I.The govt should invest funds in other rewarding areas.
 II.The spending should be permanently abandoned.

3. Statement:According to weather experts, a severe cyclonic storm would hit coastal areas of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Courses of Action: I.The local administration should alert the people of coastal areas of these two  states and they should be prepared to shift to safer places.
II. The administration should not air such reports as they disturb people  unnecessarily.

4. Statement: An IAS officer has been kidnapped in Orissa by the Naxalites.
Courses of Action: I. The Chief Minister of Orissa should resign on moral grounds.
 II. All IAS officers in Orissa should be given tight security.

5. Statement:The elephant population in India has been decreasing sharply over the past few years.
Courses of Action: I. Elephants should be declared heritage animal and kept in forest reserves or protected areas.
II. The locals should be enlisted to protect elephants.

You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

6. Statement:“Everyone wants to buy a laptop”. – Statement of a college student
Assumptions: I. The use of laptop improves skill.
II. Laptops are not a necessity but a luxury.

7. Statement:The SEBI has set up a review committee to find out the reasons for unstable stock 
prices.
Assumptions: I. The investors may regain confidence in the stock market by this decision. 
II. The review committee has the expertise to find out the causes of volatility in the  stock market.

8. Statement:“You cannot solve questions like Syllogism without consulting a diagram. Difficult  questions need diagrams for solving.” – A teacher tells his students.
Assumptions: I. The problem cannot be solved.
 II. Questions like Syllogism are difficult.

9. Statement:“Corruption needs to be fought at all costs. We are paying a heavy price for corruption.”  –A minister in his speech
Assumptions: I. The minister is not corrupt.
II. There is corruption in our system.

10. Statement:“They shall be punished. I gave them several warnings but they did not stop ragging the freshers in the institute.” – The Director of an institute tells a professor.
Assumptions: I. A punishment must always be preceded by some warnings.
II. Ragging is prohibited on the campus.
