1. Lodge [loj]
Noun: a small, makeshift or crude shelter or habitation, as of boughs, poles, skins, earth, or rough boards; cabin or hut; a house used as a temporary residence, as in the hunting season; a summer cottage; a house or cottage, as in a park or on an estate, occupied by a gatekeeper, caretaker, gardener, or other employee.
Verb: to have a habitation or quarters, especially temporarily, as in a hotel, motel, or inn.
Synonyms: chalet, cottage, country house, dormitory, dwelling, hostel, hotel, hut, inn, motel, shack, shelter, tavern, abode, auberge, burrow, camp.

2. Permeate [pur-mee-eyt]
Verb: to pass into or through every part of: to penetrate through the pores, interstices, etc., of; to be diffused through; pervade; saturate.
Synonyms: imbue, impregnate, infiltrate, infuse, invade, pass through, penetrate, percolate, pervade, saturate, seep, steep, suffuse, charge, diffuse.
Antonyms: dehydrate, dry, take out.

Example: In reaching that conclusion, his reasoning was reminiscent of the privacy jurisprudence in the U.S., where distinct variants of privacy derive support from different constitutional safeguards.

3. Reminiscent [rem-uh-nis-uh nt]
Adjective: awakening memories of something similar; suggestive (usually followed by of); characterized by or of the nature of reminiscence.
Synonyms: evocative, redolent, similar, bringing to mind, implicative, mnemonic, nostalgic, recollective, remindful.
Antonyms: forgetful, oblivious.

Example: Nevertheless, this may have been an opportunity for the Court to delineate the broad contours within which privacy could structurally grow.

4. Contour [kon-too r]
Noun: the outline of a figure or body; the edge or line that defines or bounds a shape or object; contour line.
Verb: to mark with contour lines; to make or form the contour or outline of; to build (a road, railroad track, etc.) in conformity with the contour of the land; to mold or shape so as to fit a certain configuration.
Adjective: molded or shaped to fit a particular contour or form.
Synonyms: curve, silhouette, delineation, figuration, figure, form, lineament, lines, relief, shape.

Example: As privacy is an aspect of the right to life and liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution, the question should be: is the impugned restriction of privacy ‘just, fair and reasonable’?

5. Impugn [im-pyoon]
Verb: to challenge as false (another's statements, motives, etc.); cast doubt upon.
Synonyms: assail, contravene, tar, attack, blast, break, contradict, cross, deny, dispute, gainsay, knock, negate, negative, oppose, question, resist, slam, smear, traduce.
Antonyms: agree, aid, allow, approve.

Example: The impending privacy challenges to Aadhaar and the WhatsApp privacy policy will, it is hoped, offer the Court another opportunity to provide definitive guidance on these issues.

6. Impending [im-pen-ding]
Adjective: about to happen; imminent; imminently threatening or menacing.
Synonyms: approaching, brewing, imminent, looming, coming, gathering, hovering, menacing, near, nearing, overhanging, portending, threatening, at hand.
Antonyms: gone, past, distant, later.

Example: Nothing shows up the ineptness of the state more than unpreparedness in the face of predictable events.

7. Inept [in-ept, ih-nept]
Adjective: without skill or aptitude for a particular task or assignment; maladroit; generally awkward or clumsy; haplessly incompetent; inappropriate; unsuitable; out of place; absurd or foolish.
Synonyms: ignorance, ineptitude, amateurishness, artlessness, boorishness, coarseness, crudeness, gawkiness, gracelessness, greenness, inability, incompetence, maladroitness.
Antonyms: politeness. sophistication, artfulness, cleverness.

Example: In the absence of preventive detention where appropriate, and of restriction on movement and assembly in public spaces, matters spiralled out of control once the court pronounced the cult leader guilty of rape.

8. Spiral [spahy-ruh l]
Noun: a single circle or ring of a spiral or helical curve or object; a spiral or helical object, formation, or form; Economics. a continuous increase in costs, wages, prices, etc. (inflationary spiral) or a decrease in costs, wages, prices, etc. (deflationary spiral)
Adjective: running continuously around a fixed point or center while constantly receding from or approaching it; coiling in a single plane; coiling around a fixed line or axis in a constantly changing series of planes; helical.
Synonyms: coiled, curled, fuzzy, kinky, wavy, convoluted, corkscrew, crimped, crimpy, crinkling, crinkly, crisp, curling, frizzed.
Antonym: straight.

Example: Although the remarks are political in nature, and quite unusual coming from a court, they reflect the growing perception that politicians are often in nexus with religious leaders and cult figures.

9. Nexus [nek-suh s]
Noun: a means of connection; tie; link; a connected series or group; the core or center, as of a matter or situation.
Synonyms: center, connection, core, link, network, tie, union.
Antonyms: divorce, exterior, exteriority, outside.

10. Cult [kuhlt]
Noun: a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies; an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, especially as manifested by a body of admirers; the object of such devotion.
Adjective: of or relating to a cult; of, for, or attracting a small group of devotees.
