National News

1. Bengaluru To Host Aero India In February 2019: Defence Ministry 

i. The next edition of Aero India will be held in Bengaluru, Karnataka from February 20 to 24, 2019, Defence Ministry announced. This five-day event will combine a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defence industries with public air shows. 
ii. Yelahanka Air Force station in Bengaluru has hosted all the 11 editions of Aero India so far and has emerged as a premier air show in Asia. 

2. Former RBI Governor Bimal Jalan To  Head Panel To Select New CEA 

i. The Union Government has appointed former Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan as the head of the panel that has been tasked with selecting India’s next chief economic advisor (CEA). 
ii. The panel will screen the applications received and conduct interviews. The move comes two months after the government sought applications for the post after previous CEA Arvind Subramanian resigned from office.

3. International Literacy Day: 8 September 

i. International Literacy Day, celebrated annually on 8 September, is an opportunity for Governments, civil society and stakeholders to highlight improvements in world literacy rates, and reflect on the world's remaining literacy challenges.
ii. This year’s theme is ‘Literacy and skills development.’

4. 3-day World Hindu Congress Begins In Chicago 

i. The three-day World Hindu Congress has begun in Chicago, the USA. Over 2000 delegates from across the globe are participating in this mega event.
ii. The theme of World Hindu Congress is 'think collectively, achieve valiantly'. 


5. President 3-Nation Visit: India-Czech Republic Ink 5 Pacts 

i. President Ram Nath Kovind was in the Czech Republic on the last leg of 3-nation Europe tour. He met Prime Minister Andrej Babis of Czech Republic. India and the Czech Republic signed five agreements as part of President Kovind's visit. 
ii. The 5 agreements are as follows: 
1. Cooperation between Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, India, and the Czech Academy of Sciences, 
2. A visa waiver agreement for diplomatic passport holders, 
3. A work plan to support Indo-Czech projects in diverse areas of science and technology, with the Department of Science and Technology taking the lead from the Indian side; 
4. Cooperation in laser technology between ELI Beamlines and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, and 
5. Cooperation between the Haryana Agricultural University and the Czech University of Life Sciences.

6. SBI Appoints Anshula Kant As Managing Director 

i. State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Anshula Kant as Managing Director of the Bank. She has been appointed to the post for 2 years. 
ii. Prior this appointment, Kant was the bank's Deputy Managing Director. With this appointment, SBI now has four MDs - PK Gupta, DK Khara and Arijit Basu.

7. ISSF World Championship: Hriday Hazarika Wins Gold in 10 m Air Rifle 

i. Indian shooter Hriday Hazarika notched up a gold medal in the 10 m air rifle junior men's event of the ISSF World Championships in South Korea. 
ii. The Indian team, comprising Hazarika, Divyansh Panwar and Arjun Babuta, finished fourth with a combined total of 1872.3.
iii. The women's 10m air rifle team of Elavenil Valarivan, Shreya Agarwal and Manini Kaushik then produced a sensational performance to total 1880.7 for a gold with a world record to boot. 


8. Luka Modric Wins 'UEFA Men's Player of The Year Award' 

i. Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been named UEFA Men's Player of the Year for 2017/18. Modric beat off competition from former Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
ii. The Croatian international received the trophy on stage in Monaco during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw. He was also named UEFA Champions League Midfielder of the Season.
