Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. INNOCUOUS : अहानिकर
Meaning: not harmful or offensive.
Synonyms: harmless, safe, non-dangerous, non-poisonous
Antonyms: harmful, obnoxious
Example: While you may think bullying is innocuous, it leaves a lasting scar on its victim.

2. DOLE : अंशदान
Meaning: benefit paid by the state to the unemployed.
Synonyms: benefit, allowance, charity, benefit
Antonyms: forfeit, loss
Example: Do any of these people have jobs or are they all freeloading on the public dole?

3. PAUCITY : न्यूनता
Meaning: the presence of something in only small or insufficient quantities or amounts.
Synonyms: scarcity, dearth, shortage, rarity
Antonyms: abundance
Example: Because of the paucity of our oil supply, we need to seek out other fuel resources.

4. PROBE : छानबीन
Meaning: a thorough investigation into a crime or other matter.

Example: An independent investigator will probe the allegations of racial bias in police hiring.

5. MIRE : मुसीबत में फसना
Meaning: involve someone or something in (a difficult situation).
Synonyms: entangle, embroil, enmesh, involve
Example: The woman worked two jobs in order to remove herself from the mire of poverty.

6. Mettle : दिलेरी
Meaning: a person’s ability to cope well with difficulties; spirit and resilience.
Synonyms: fortitude, tenacity, spirit, valour
Antonyms: cowardice, timidity, weakness
Example: To prove his mettle and show that he was daring enough to join the club, Timmy had to spend an hour alone in the haunted house on the hill.

7. SHREWD : कुशल
Meaning: having or showing sharp powers of judgement; astute.
Synonyms: astute, sharp-witted, sharp, acute, intelligent
Antonyms: stupid, unwise, ingenuous
Example: As a motivational speaker, Clark is a shrewd manipulator of human emotions.

8. IMPASSE : गतिरोध
Meaning: a situation in which no progress is possible, especially because of disagreement; a deadlock.
Synonyms: deadlock, dead end, stalemate, checkmate, stand-off; standstill
Antonyms: solution, boon
Example: Because of the impasse between workers and management, the factory has been closed for two weeks.

9. FETTER : बेड़ी
Meaning: confine or restrict (someone).
Synonyms: restrict, restrain, constrain, confine, limit; hinder
Antonyms: aid, allow, assist, expedite
Example: The budget crisis is a fetter to the city’s plan for repairing the highways.

10. PARRY : बचाव
Meaning: answer (a question or accusation) evasively.
Synonyms: evade, sidestep, avoid, dodge
Antonyms: attract, allow, confront, encounter
Example: Before Mary walked away, she tried to parry Ann’s insult with one of her own.
