To fetch you good marks we are providing a set of questions that are familiar with the updated pattern. Include the study notes in your bag to keep yourself updated with the latest questions that can be asked in the exam. Following is the quiz of 6th August, that inculcate the important topics from new pattern error detection and para jumble.

Directions (1-5): The following question consists of a sentence divided into five parts. The highlighted portions are grammatically correct. Each sentence is followed by the three expressions which may or may not contain grammatical errors. Choose the most appropriate alternative among the five options which should replace the incorrect part of the sentence. If the given sentence is grammatically correct and contextually meaningful, choose option (E) i.e., “No correction required” as your answer.

Q1. After he had read/ the two first chapters/ of the novel, / he felt like reading/ the book at one sitting.
[I] the first two chapters
[II] in the novel
[III] the book on one sitting

only [I]
only [II]
only [III]
both [I] and [III]
No correction required
Solution:
The error is in the second part of the sentence as one of the important rules for a grammatically correct sentence structure says that when in a sentence Ordinal adjective such as first, second, third, last etc. and cardinal adjective such as one, two, three, four etc., are present together, then the cardinal adjective must follow the ordinal adjective. Eg. “The first five questions.”. However, the other parts of the sentence comprehend the grammatical syntax of the sentence and are correct and do not require any changes. Thus, option (a) becomes the most viable choice.
Q2. Would have they waited / even a week to start /advocating for change, / the reporters would/ have been gone home.
[I] Had they waited
[II] advocating over change
[III] have gone home

only [I]
only [II]
only [III]
both [I] and [III]
No correction required
Solution:
To correct the first and third part of the sentence, replace “would have they waited” with “Had they waited” and “have been gone home” with “have gone home” respectively as to express an unfulfilled condition, desire, wish of past “Had+subject+V3, Subject + would/ could/ might/ should + have + V3” syntax is used. The conditional perfect is formed using would have together with the past participle of the main verb. It refers to an impossible condition in the past and its probable result in the past. Other part of the sentence is grammatically correct and doesn’t require any changes. Therefore, with the given rationale option (d) is the most viable choice.
Q3. To consider our own history, / surely compassion is/ infinitely preferable than our/ first step being to fine and forcibly /remove Venezuelans seeking our help.
[I] Considering our own history
[II] infinitely preferable to our
[III] first step being too fine and forcibly

only [I]
only [II]
Both [I] and [II]
All [I], [II], [III]
No correction required
Solution:
All the three parts comprise either grammatical or contextual error in them. In the first part replace “To consider our own history” with “Considering our own history” to eliminate the contextual error. ‘to consider’ means to think about (something or someone) carefully especially in order to make a choice or decision while ‘considering’ can be used as a preposition or conjunction which means taking into consideration. In the second part of the sentence replace “than” with “to” as for the words like ‘preferable, senior, junior, superior, inferior, posterior’ “to” is used. The word prefer itself means choosing one thing over another and as per grammatical usages, generally prefer is used when two nouns are referred Eg. I prefer tea to coffee. Moreover, in the third part of the sentence “to” should be replaced with “too” to make the sentence logical and meaningful. “to” as a preposition means approaching or reaching (a particular condition); while “too” is an adverb which means to a higher degree than is desirable, permissible, or possible; excessively. Hence, as all the three parts contain error in them option (d) becomes the most viable answer choice.
Q4. You will meet not only / colleagues who you've never / met but also interact with / people regardless of where / in the hierarchy they stand.
[I] Not only will you meet
[II] met yet also interact with
[III] people regarding of where

only [I]
only [II]
Both [I] and [II]
All [I], [II], [III]
No correction required
Solution:
To make the syntax of the sentence grammatically correct replace “You will meet not only” with “Not only will you meet”. “Not only” should be used before “meet” and not after. As “Not only…But also” is used to connect two subjects, objects or verbs. It means that the words following both parts of this correlative conjunction (i.e., not only and but also) should belong to the same parts of speech. For example, if a verb follows not only, then a verb should also follow but also. The other parts of the sentence do not contain any error in them, therefore, option (a) becomes the most suitable answer choice.

Q5. Reserve Bank of India, as the / authority on capital flows in the country, / is privy to information on the outward remittances / of both individuals / and Indian companies.
[I] authority on capital flowing in the country
[II] is privy for information on the outward remittances
[III] of both individual

only [I]
only [II]
Both [I] and [III]
All [I], [II], [III]
No correction required
Solution:
The given sentence is both grammatically and contextually correct. The sentence is in simple present tense and the syntax followed is precise. Therefore, none of the parts requires any changes. Hence, options (e) becomes the most feasible answer choice.
Directions (6-10): For the questions given below 8 sentences are given which may or may not be jumbled. These sentences form a coherent paragraph (not every sentence). Read each question carefully and then answer accordingly.

(A)Wi-Fi uses radio waves to
transmit information between your device and a router via frequencies.
(B)If you measured the time
between each wave crash, you’d be measuring the frequency of the waves.
(C)What does that mean, though?
Well, a hertz is just a measurement of frequency.
(D)Two radio-wave frequencies
can be used, depending on the amount of data being sent: 2.4 gigahertz and 5
gigahertz.
(E)Sources point out that the
discussion on cyber security is held in the backdrop of increased digital
footprint.
(F)For example, let’s say
you’re sitting on a beach, watching the waves crash to shore.
(G)One gigahertz, on the other
hand, is one billion waves per second.
(H)One hertz is a frequency of
one wave per second.

Q6. If the sentence (A), “Wi-Fi uses radio waves to transmit information between your device and a router via frequencies.” is the first sentence of the paragraph so formed after the rearrangement, which of the following sentences does not belong to the paragraph?

E
D
G
F
H
Solution:
If (A) is the first sentence of the paragraph so formed after the rearrangement, the statement (E) does not seem to be the part of the paragraph. The first statement of the paragraph gives a valid clue that the theme of the paragraph revolves around the functions and features of Wi-Fi. However, the statement (E) makes out a different topic which is contextually incorrect; it is about the cyber security which has no relevance with any other statement of the paragraph. Hence option (a) is the correct choice.
Q7. If the sentence (G), “One gigahertz, on the other hand, is one billion waves per second.” is the last sentence of the paragraph so formed after the rearrangement of other sentences and the exclusion of incoherent sentence, which of the following sentences can follow the sentence (G) coherently?
The process repeats itself until you have loaded this article—or anything that requires the Internet.
Thanks to Wi-Fi, we no longer have to be tethered to the Internet with cables.
The higher the frequency, the greater the amount of data transmitted per second.
All of this happens at an unbelievably fast rate.
These 1s and 0s are translated into wave frequencies by the Wi-Fi chip embedded in your device.
Solution:
The sentence (c) makes a proper and logical connection with the sentence (G) as it is mentioned in the statement that One gigahertz is one billion waves per second which is about the frequency of wave and thus the higher the frequency, the greater the amount of data transmitted per second. Other sentences given as options cannot be put immediately after the last statement of the coherent paragraph so formed as they are irrelevant and lack the flow of continuity. Hence option (c) is the correct choice.
Q8. If the sentence (A), “Wi-Fi uses radio waves to transmit information between your device and a router via frequencies.” is the first sentence of the paragraph so formed after the rearrangement of other sentences and the exclusion of incoherent one, which of the following combinations denotes that the latter sentence would immediately follow its former one i.e., the first sentence would be immediately followed by the second one?
E-B
D-A
A-F
H-G
F-E
Solution:
If (A) is the first sentence of the coherent paragraph, the combination of sentences (H) and (G) makes a valid and appropriate connection with each other. It can be viewed by reading the sentence (H) properly which mentions, “One hertz is a frequency of one wave per second.” Thus, the next sentence should contain the data which should be the giving the similar information. The sentence (G) coherently follows the first one as it gives the information about the value of frequency of one gigahertz. Thus, the latter sentence follows the former one coherently and meaningfully which is not the case with the other combinations given as options. Hence option (d) is the correct choice.
Q9. If the sentence (D), “Two radio-wave frequencies can be used, depending on the amount of data being sent: 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz.” follows the sentence (A) after rearranging the other sentences into a coherent paragraph and excluding the incoherent sentence, which of the following sentences can replace the sentence (D) without altering the theme of the coherent paragraph?

The more advanced 802.11n can transmit a maximum of 140 megabits of data per second and uses a frequency level of 5GHz.
A wireless network will transmit at a frequency level of 2.4 GHz or 5GHz to adapt to the amount of data that is being sent by the user.
Wireless networking is known as Wi-Fi or 802.11 networking as it covers the IEEE 802.11 technologies.
Like mobile phones, a Wi-Fi network makes use of radio waves to transmit information across a network.
None of the above.
Solution:
Read the sentence (D) properly, it clearly states that there are two frequency levels that a wi-fi works on, 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz. Thus, the sentence that can replace the existing one should provide the similar information regarding the wi-fi so that it coherently adjusts to the meaning of the paragraph and adds meaning to the other sentences. Among the given statements, only option (b) provides the similar context. Other options are not befitting in the context of their replacement. Hence option (b) is the correct choice.
Q10. If the sentence (A), “Wi-Fi uses radio waves to transmit information between your device and a router via frequencies.” is the first statement and the sentence (G) the last of the coherent paragraph so formed after the rearrangement of other sentences and the elimination of the incoherent one, which of the following options depicts the most appropriate sequence of the coherent paragraph?

ADCBFHG
ABFDBEG
ADFCBHG
AHEDFBG
ADCFBHG
Solution:
If (A) is the first and (G) is the last statements, the sentences in the sequence of ADCFBHG form a coherent paragraph which is about how the Wi-Fi works and the different mechanisms related to it. The question can be quickly solved by taking the help of previous questions asked in the format. In the previous question, it is clearly mentioned that the sentence (D) follows the sentence (A) after the correct rearrangement of sentences and elimination of the incoherent one. This can be visualized in the option (e). Other sequences are not in proper order to make the paragraph coherent. Hence option (e) is the correct choice.
