7th April is celebrated each year globally as World Health Day under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). The day aims to draw attention to important health issues facing the world each year. This time the themes of World Health Days for 2016 is Halt the rise: beat diabetes.
In 1948, World Health Assembly was first held in Geneva by the WHO where it was decided to celebrate the World Health Day annually on 7th of April. It was first celebrated worldwide in the year 1950 as the World Health Day. The WHO organizes international, regional and local events on the Day related to a particular theme.
