1. Four month window to disclose black money opens today

i. The Income Declaration Scheme which seeks to provide an opportunity to all person who have not declared their income correctly in previous years to come forward and declare undisclosed incomes, will open today and will remain in force till 30th of September, 2016. 
ii. The Scheme is part of Finance Act, 2016 and will provide an opportunity to domestic black money holders to come clean by paying tax and penalty of 45 % on undisclosed assets. 
iii. Under the scheme, the declarations can be filed online or with the jurisdictional Principal Commissioners of Income-tax across the country.

2. Government raises retirement age of doctors to 65

i. The Prime Minister has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for enhancing the age of superannuation of all doctors of the Central Health Service to 65 years with effect from 31st May 2016.
ii. This will enable the Government to retain experienced doctors for a longer period, and to provide better services in its public health facilities, particularly to the poorest, who are entirely dependent on public facilities.
iii. As of now, the retirement age of doctors in government hospitals 62 years and 60 years in others hospitals.

3. India and Morocco conclude five MoUs to enhance cooperation in various fields

i. India and Morocco have signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering fields as diverse as water resources management, television broadcasting, institutional co-operation and cultural and educational exchanges, further providing venues for enhanced cooperation. 
ii. The MoUs were signed during delegation-level talks in the presence of Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane in Rabat. 
iii. Mr. Ansari also held one-to-one talks with the Moroccan Prime Minister in which the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including terrorism. Two speakers from both the countries have also offered to set up a Parliament Forum between the two countries for the exchange of information. 

4. India and World Bank sign agreement for efficient bus service

i. The Government of India and the World Bank has signed a 9.2 million US dollar grant agreement under the World Bank-Global Environment Facility (GEF) Programme for the Efficient and Sustainable City Bus Service Project. 
ii. The project aims to improve the efficiency of the transport and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in selected Indian cities which includes- Chandigarh, Jaipur and Mira Bhayandar municipality in the Thane district of Maharashtra.
iii. The IBRD will be the implementing agency of the GEF for the project. The total cost of the programme is $113 million, out of which $9.2 million will come as a grant from the World Bank and $103.07 million will be funded by the Centre, state and city governments for the funding of buses and ancillary infrastructure.

5. India and Morocco launch Chamber of Commerce and Industry

i. The India and Morocco have launched the India-Morocco Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMCCI) in Rabat which was inaugurated by Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane.
ii. The IMCCI aims to accelerate the pace of economic development between the two countries. 
iii. The motto of that chamber is,  ‘Shake hands, strengthen ties, go with IMCCI’. The India-Morocco Chamber,  will focus on the requirements of both sides and will also help them to achieve their trade target. 

6. Asia’s largest tech trade show COMPUTEX kicks off in Taipei

i. Asia’s largest technology trade show COMPUTEX has kicked off in Taipei, Taiwan on 31st of May. 
ii. The show will be held for 5 consecutive days, with 1,602 exhibitors, from more than 1,600 companies from 30 countries using 5,009 booth spaces to showcase their latest products. 
iii. The trade show has been organized by TAITRA ( Taiwan External Trade Development Council ) and TCA (Taipei Computer Association). The trade show has 4 main themes that focuses on : IoT applications, innovations and startups, business solutions, and gaming. 

7. World’s longest and deepest rail tunnel has inaugurated in Switzerland

i. The world’s longest and deepest rail tunnel, running under the Switzerland Alps, has inaugurated in Switzerland. The 57-kilometer long Gotthard Base Tunnel has connected northern and southern Europe and shorten travel time for many rail routes. 
ii. This tunnel was built in 17 years by 2,400 workers, which cost of over 12 billion dollars. The full service of this tunnel will begin in December. 
iii. Till now, the Japan’s Seikan tunnel, which has measured 53.9 kilometers, was the longest rail tunnel in the world. 
8. China successfully launches three satellites

i. China has successfully launched three (one domestic and two foreign) satellites namely Ziyuan III 02 satellite and two NewSat satellites. 
ii. They were launched on the back of a Long March 4B rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in northern Shanxi Province. 
iii. It was the 228th flight mission by a Long March carrier rocket.



9. Admiral Sunil Lanba takes over as Chief of Naval Staff

i. Admiral Sunil Lanba has taken over as the new Chief of Naval Staff. 
ii. The 58-year-old Lanba, a specialist in Navigation and Direction, will have the full three-year tenure as the Navy Chief. 
iii. He has succeeded Admiral R K Dhowan.





10. BS Bassi appointed as UPSC Member

i. The President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Bhim Sain Bassi, IPS (Retd) as a member of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
ii. He will hold the constitutional post till February 2011, from the day when he enters the office.
iii. He is an officer of Indian Police Service of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre of 1977 batch. During his career spanning over 38 years has held several important positions like Commissioner, Delhi Police, Special Commissioner (Traffic), Delhi Police, Special Commissioner (Vigilance), Delhi Police, Inspector General, Chandigarh police and DGP, Goa Police. He has retired as Delhi Police chief on 29 February 2016.

11. Bollywood actor and Comedian Razzak Khan passes away

i. Famous comic star Razzak Khan, who is popularly known for his comic roles in movies like Hello Brother, Hungama and Hera Pheri has passed away after having a heart attack in Mumbai. 
ii. The comedian has acted in more than 90 films in India. Razzak khan first film is Mohra which has released in 1994. 
iii. Razzak has worked with many stars including Salman Khan, Govinda and Shah Rukh Khan over the years. The last time he made an appearance on the screen was, when he was part of Kapil Sharma’s show – Comedy Nights with Kapil. 

12. Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Kulasekara retires from Test Cricket

i. Sri Lanka seamer Nuwan Kulasekara has announced his retirement from Tests to focus on limited-overs cricket. 
ii. The right-arm pacer has represented Sri Lanka in 21 Test matches and picked up 48 wickets since making his debut in April 2005.
iii. He has also won the best bowler award in the 2002-03 domestic competition.
