4. Union Government today suspended VRS Natarajan, the head of the state-run defence enterprise Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML). 
NOTE:- The government’s move came in the wake of CBI’s recommendations to remove him from his position given his role in the controversial Tatra truck deal. The investigating agency had accused Natarajan of trying to influence the investigation against him.
5. Defence Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan begin today in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.  The Indian side will be led by Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma and Pakistani side will be led by Defence Secretary Nargis Sethi.
6. Supreme Court of India refused to entertain the Union Government’s petition seeking a stay on an Andhra Pradesh high court order which quashed a 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities in educational institutions and government jobs in the existing OBC quota.
7. West Bengal Government started a project ‘Nijo Griho, Nijo Bhumi’ to ensure house for all in rural areas of the state by next 4 years.
NOTE:- Under the project, every landless family in the rural areas will be given three Katthas of land for housing purpose.
8. Uttar Pradesh, Union Minister for Coal, Mr. Sriprakash Jaisawal today laid foundation stone for 1980 Mega Watt power plant at Ghatampur in Kanpur district. 
NOTE:- This power plant will be constructed under a joint venture of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited.
9. Government has said that it will introduce Companies bill 2011 in forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
10. Green ‘Ring’ Project started in Gurgaon by Huda city centre.
The project aims to show how sustainable and eco-friendly green campuses can implement initiatives that can make the city more sustainable.
11. International rating agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) today warned that India risks a sovereign downgrade which would result in the country dropping off the list of countries with an investment-grade rating.
India presently enjoys a BBB- which is the lowest investment grade rating.
