DAILY GK UPDATES: 13th JUNE 2012

1. 5th OPEC International Seminar started  in Vienna today.
2. India’s import bill jumps 40% to $140 billion from $1O0 billion in Financial Year 2011-12 as high oil prices shaved off much of the nation’s GDP growth rate.
3. Pakistani ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan passed away following a prolonged illness in Karachi today. 
NOTE:-The influence of Mehdi Hassan’s passion for Urdu poetry and initial grooming in Dhrupad tradition earned him a special place in the world of music. 
4. Election Commission has announced that the Presidential poll will be held on the 19th of next month and  counting will take place on the 22nd.
5. Centre has extended the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), to domestic workers. Main objective behind this is to inform the beneficiaries regarding enrolment procedures and benefits of the scheme. 
NOTE:-The state governments have to identify domestic workers who have completed 18 years of age on the basis of definition of domestic workers prescribed in the guidelines.
6. Union Govt. today constituted a Committee under the Chairmanship of the Indian Council of Social Science Research Chairman, Prof. S.K. Thorat to review educationally inappropriate material in Social Science text books of NCERT from classes 9 to 12. 
7. Egypt Parliament today cleared the list of a 100 member Constituent Assembly which will write the new constitution of the country.
8. A joint statement issued by India and Pakistan at the end of the 2-day Defense Secretary level talks in Rawalpindi yesterday.
9. The Air India team which won the Lala Raghubir Singh hot weather cricket tournament by beating Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) by five wickets in the final.
10. Legendary Cuban Boxer Teofilo Stevenson died of heart attack today at the age of 60.
