DAILY GK UPDATES: 6th JUNE 2012

1. V S Sampath was today appointed as the New Chief Election Commissioner.
2. Planning Commission of India approved Rs.10,500 crore annual outlay plan for Assam for the fiscal year 2012-13. 
3. International Monetary Fund  (IMF) announced an aid package of a $157 million to be distributed over 3 years to support the Malawi economy.
4.Union Government of India announced a new trade policy aimed at achieving 20 per cent increase in exports to 360 billion dollar in the fiscal year 2012-13. 
NOTE:- India’s exports grew by 21 per cent and touched 303.7 billion dollar in 2011-12, while the trade deficit during the same period expanded to 185 billion dollar.
5. US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta arrived India on a 2-day visit. 
NOTE:- The visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral strategic and defence cooperation between the 2 nations. discuss China’s growing assertiveness, especially in the contentious South China Sea, and the volatile Af-Pak region.
6. Walt Disney Company announced to ban the junk food advertisements on kid’s programmes. 
NOTE:-  
Walt Disney became the first media company to ban junk-food ads on programmes made for children.

7. Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza has reached the finals of the French Open Mixed Doubles tennis beating Kazak-Italian pair of Galina Voskoboeva and Danielle Bracialli in the semifinal.
8. US drone strike in northwest Pakistan killed al-Qaida’s second-in-command Abu Yahya al-Libi.
9. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna held a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Li Kaqiang in Beijing today and discussed bilateral relations with him.
10. World IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) Launch Day held globally today.
NOTE:- All the major Internet Service Providers, networking equipment manufacturers and web companies around the world came together on the occasion, to permanently enable IPv6 for their products and services.
11.  In a rare space event, Venus, the second closest planet from the sun, passed in front of the sun on 5 June 2012.
