The best what every candidate aiming at IBPS Clerk Mains should do is be prepared with these changes observed in IBPS RRB Clerk Mains as there are high chances of these being carried forward as IBPS has already raised the bar for Clerical Level Examination. Here we will discuss with you the Strategy for this new pattern and what all you can exactly expect in IBPS Clerk Mains according to the current scenario.

IBPS Clerk Mains will have 5 sections each of which have 40 questions per section with a varying marks distribution; overall there are 200 questions for 200 marks with a negative marking of 1/4th of a mark for each wrong attempt. As Reasoning and Quant are the sections which have higher number of marks as there are 40 questions for 50 marks in both the sections; this is clearly the scoring point for you all. Seeing drastic changes in level and pattern of English it’s hard for students to be confident about their answers, but whereas Reasoning and Quant are concerned you can be confident with what you choose to attempt so practice them well as they’ll help you get a good overall score.

English Language

This is the section that has completely changed in Banking Examination this year. The level is certainly increased which demands more practice and fluency from student’s end to bag a good score. Following are some major changes in types of questions observed in this section:

Finding Errors among sentences: Here you’ll be given a set of sentences and one among them might have a grammatical/idiomatic/phrasal/spelling error. You’ll have to spot that sentence. This can also be the other way round where you’ll be asked to select a grammatically correct sentence among a given set of sentences. Click here for Practice Quiz

Word Usage: Find out in which among the given sentences the given word is used correctly in proper and meaningful context.

Jumbled Paragraph with Odd one out: Here you’ll be given a set of sentences where you’ll have to find one sentence that does not relate with the context and re-arrange others to form a proper sequence of sentences in a paragraph. Click Here for Practice Quiz.

Fill in the blank with phrasal verbs: In this fill in the blank you’ll be required to fill in the correct phrasal verb.

Along with these topics you should also practice Cloze Test and Reading Comprehension. As it is a Clerical Level Examination practice with story based RC and there can be vocabulary questions in the set of 10 questions of Reading Comprehension.

Reasoning

Reasoning section has also changed in the course of this year, as we saw RRB Clerk Mains had 5 puzzles in reasoning which was unusual for a clerical level exam. You should clearly practice more seating arrangement and puzzles as is also expected in IBPS Clerk Mains. For IBPS Clerk Mains you can expect 2 variables puzzles so practice more and more to gain speed. Apart from puzzles, a major change was in form of Reverse Syllogism, where you’ll be given a set of conclusion and you’ll be asked to find the correct set of statements. Although it is Clerical level examination and student do not expect such questions but it is better to be prepared than to think later on that you could have.

Quantitative Aptitude

Quantitative Aptitude will be a scoring section in IBPS Clerk Mains as it has 40 questions for 50 marks. In recent exam of RRB Clerk 50% question in quant were from Miscellaneous Arithmetic part which includes, Percentage, Average, Ratio and Proportion, Partnership, Time & Work and Work & Wages, Pipes and Cisterns, Allegation or Mixtures, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Permutation and Combination, Probability and Mensuration. So practice this part very well as you cannot skip onto the miscellaneous part.

Although Data Sufficiency and quadratic wasn’t expected by students in Clerical level exam but there were questions from these two topics as well. This pattern is also expected in IBPS Clerk Mains 2016. Practice DI daily so that you gain speed for calculation; as DI usually has questions of average, ratio and percentage, it will be beneficial if you practice them as well.

It’s best not to think much about what is going to be there in your exam, new pattern or old pattern… You know that the level is changing; you know what all types can be asked in new pattern, just practice and be prepared to face both the patterns in the exam. We’re also providing you study material and quizzes in this new pattern. Study well and you’ll surely be able to get through IBPS Clerk Mains 2016.
