What Is G20?

G20, or the group of Twenty is an intergovernmental organization comprising the European Union(EU) and 19 other nations. The G20 serves as a crucial multilateral forum linking the world’s leading developed and emerging economies, playing a pivotal role in ensuring global economic growth and well-being. Collectively, G20 nations account for over 80% of the global GDP, 75% of international trade, and are home to 60% of the world’s population.

Who Are The Member Countries Of G20?

The Member Countries Of G20 are the following: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.

When and Where was First G20 Held?

The first G20 Summit was held in 2008 on 14 and 15 November in Washington DC, USA. The summit took place in the context of the 2008 global economic crisis and was named the “Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy.”

G20 Summit 2023

For the 18th time, the member countries of G20 will assemble together. G20 Summit 2023 is scheduled on 9 and 10 September 2023 and will be held in Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre (IECC), Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

G20 Summit 2023 Presidency

The G20 Summit 2023 will be presided over by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minster Of India. After the G20 Summit of 2022 held in Indonesia, Bali, the Indonesian President Joko Widodo handed over the Presidency Gavel to Narendra Modi.

G20 Summit 2023 Theme

The theme for G20 Summit 2023 is, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — One Earth, One Family, One Future”. The theme is drawn from the ancient Sanskrit Words of the Maha Upanishad. The theme highlights the value of all life and their interconnectedness on the planet Earth and in the wider universe-human, animal, plant, and microorganisms. The theme emphasizes LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), focusing on promoting environmentally sustainable and responsible choices, both at the individual and national levels. This approach aims to inspire worldwide transformative efforts, ultimately leading to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future.

The idea behind the logo of G20 is taken from the different colors of the India’s National Flag-Saffron, White, Green, and Blue. It draws a parallel between planet Earth and the lotus, which is India’s national flower symbolizing growth amidst adversity. The Earth represents India’s environmentally conscious way of life, aligning seamlessly with nature. Beneath the G20 logo, is the word “Bharat” inscribed in the Devanagari script.
