National Language of India: India is a union of states with 28 states and eight union territories. This country consists of a variety of languages that changes every mile. This democratic country where varied ethnic cultures, languages, and traditions and also has a diverse list of spoken languages. What is the national language of India? What is the official language of India? We will be answering all these questions right here so keep reading.

National Language of India

No language has been given the status of national language by our Constitution yet. Although Hindi was declared as the national language it was only spoken by 40% of the Indian population, which created a hurdle for the rest of the population as they were required to learn Hindi. Apart from the national language, the official language commission represented 22 official languages including Hindi and English which we will be discussing on this page.

Official Language of India

As we know that there is no one language that is declared as a national language but there are two languages that were declared as official languages of communication by the national government. These official languages are: Hindi & English

Official Language:Hindi is the language that is used when communicating with the states of the Hindi belt. While English is the associate official language used while communicating with the states.

Minority Language: Mahl on the other hand is the language of Minicoy which has fewer than 1 million speakers and is considered to be the minority language of India.

Scheduled Language of India: State-Wise

The eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution states that there are 22 languages that were chosen to be the scheduled language of India. Below is the list of all official schedule languages of India:
