Answers:
1. 4
2. 2
3. 1
4. 1
5. 1
6. 3;
All toys are chairs (A) + No chair is furniture (E) i.e. = A + E = E No toy is furniture.
Now, No toy is furniture (E) + Some furniture are paint (I) i.e., (E) + (I) —-> O i.e.– Some paints are
not toys. So, I and II do not follow but they form a complimentary I —> E type pair. Therefore either conclusion I or conclusion II follow.
7. 2
Some eraser are markers (I) + All markers are pencils (A) —-> I + A = I i.e. —-> Some erasers are pencils —-> Conversion —-> Some pencils are erasers (I)
Therefore Conclusion II follows.
Now, all pens are erasers (A) + Some pencils are erasers (I) —-> A + I —-> No Conclusion. Therefore Conclusion I does not follow.
8. 5
All metals are woods (A) + All woods are plastics (A) = A + A = All metals are plastics. Now, All metals are plastics (A) + No plastic is a gas (E) —-> A + E = E —-> No Metal is a gas. Hence Conclusion I follow again, All woods are plastic (A) + No plastic is a gas (E) —-> A + E —-> No wood is a gas. Hence conclusion II
follows.
9. 2
All woods are plastic – Conversion – Some plastic are woods. hence conclusion I does not follow. Again, All metal are woods (A) + All woods are plastics (A) —-> A —-> All metals are plastics. Hence conclusion II
follows.
10. 2
All Laptop are gadgets (A) —-> Conversion —-> Some gadgets are Laptops ie. I type. So, All tablets are gadgets (A) + Some gadgets are Laptops (I) —-> A + I —-> No conclusion. Therefore I does not follow.
Now, All mobiles are tablet (A) + All tablets are gadgets (A) —-> A + A —-> All mobiles are gadgets (A). Therefore. Conclusion II follow.
