North-east India falls in the distinctive part of Indo Burma hotspots which ranks 6th among the 25 biodiversity region of the world. The region is a treasure trove for herbs, plants, animals and microbial resources. Despite of all the natural resources, North East remain one of the most secluded terrain of India with all the possibilities of economy rise. Realizing that some one has to take the initiative first, Association for Promoting North-East India (APNEI) stepped forward with unique ideas and concepts to attract attention of globetrotters to this part of the world.North-East India lie deep in the lap of easternmost Himalayan hills in north-eastern part of India. Connected to rest of India by merely 20 km of wide land (at Siliguri, West Bengal) the North-East India shares over 2,000 km of border with Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Important Facts about North-East The Union Government set up the Department of Development of North Eastern Region in September, 2001 and upgraded it to a Ministry in May, 2004 underscoring the its complete commitment to ensure development with equity for the NER to unleash the potential of its human and natural resources.Dr Jitendra Singh is present Development of North Eastern Region (Independent Charge).
