I am a Graduate; I have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance, from K.C. College, Mumbai. I work at a Swimming Club as an Assistant Accountant and currently preparing for MCOM Part I examination. And I am a BA reader (I just found BA on Google; and It’s like I didn’t find BA, BA found me). I have an experience in writing the Interview Experiences, but this is different… I am writing my success story.
I was in the First Year of BAF, usually this is the time when you start thinking what you want to do with your life (Average students usually start thinking about it now). For me, it starts with Economics, I am not a very bright student from my class but Economics have always been something. How our country works, literally. A part of Macro Economics consists of Banking and its functions. I found it amusing, truthfully. But this is not the moment of realization. It’s not that easy; once in his/her life a student has always been a “Bakra” (Yeh mera dost CAT de raha hai toh mai bhi dunga… MBA sounds lucrative just because our friends are doing it too). So what do I do? I register myself in CAT prep classes (Spending heavy bucks there) and I manage to score a maximum percentile of 41% , never scored more than that (the level of CAT is always like 5 times more than IBPS PO). So I drop out. I stopped going to the classes. And I didn’t even appear for CAT exam because after paying heavy bucks in prep classes CAT again asks for thousands. Now comes the realization, out of thin air, when I study about Reserve Bank of India again in my second year (is this why they have a subject two times in a course?), I was hypnotized by Economics again, and I made up my mind that I will be giving bank exams instead.
Like a regular nerd, I see the stats, the ratio of people appearing and getting selected is same as CAT, but then again, when you clear CAT you study again (MBA) but when you give Bank Exams you become a Banker. (This is how I thought; I don’t know what you guys think about this) And at the age of 20, and being a very paranoid person, I decided not to waste my time anymore.
So, my realization was in Semester 4, and my friends were already getting internship offers due to their high score. Watching my friends going abroad made me more determined, I enrolled myself in cheap (450 Rs a month and 1000 Rs Yearly) online mock test series and preparation (After CAT prep classes, I didn’t feel like going to classes anymore). First thing I did when I came to know about SBI Assistant notification, I filled the application form, as they didn’t exactly need Graduates, It was just “Either Graduates, or Appearing in final year”. And started preparing according to the topics I am not aware of like Number Arrangement, etc. and gave a lot of mock exams. Along with this I graduated with aggregate 71% score.
After Graduation, I was lucky to get a job in a club as an Assistant Accountant. I was still giving mocks at the time, and to my surprise I was actually getting better in my score day by day (also it was easy as I was a CAT aspirant too).
I gave my SBI Assistant exam and then IBPS PO and IBPS Clerk…
I am not going to mention the ones in which I failed. But it was like… Pass, fail, pass, fail, pass, and fail.
IBPS PO- 51 (53 attempted) (Cut off for PWD HI-36)
IBPS Clerk- 100 (104 attempted) (Cut off for PWD HI-57)
I gave a total of 3 interviews, and came to know on 25th February 2015 that I am in for SBI Clerk.
HOW BA HELPS
General Awareness, the material and capsules you get here can’t be found anywhere else on the internet. I had mock exams to help me but I believe the daily quizzes helps too. Also in the comments section when all the people are talking so much about Banks, it affects your mentality… To be a Banker, you should believe that you’re the Banker. Most of the bank related queries that take 4 years in Yahoo websites are answered in seconds here, that’s why everybody at BA is already a Banker.
_/_ one other person is typing… _/_
I don’t think this one needs to be mentioned, but be very precise while filling the form. BA posts get comments like “By mistake I filled that I am OBC”, “By mistake I wrote my DOB as 1992 instead of 1993”, etc. Affidavits are ugly things; you don’t need it in the future.
This is my principle rule, the code to be followed every time while giving an exam which has a negative marking system: Never Ever under Any Circumstances “Tukka” Your Answers. I mean only attempt those in which you are 100% sure that the answer is correct.
Why? Because with just more than average preparation for IBPS PO, while attempting the paper, which seemed more like a danger zone… And looked like a joke as I was only attempting 8, 9, and 10 attempts in a section (But strictly only those which I was sure of…) with such a combination of attempts, I reached 53 attempts out of 200… I was sad, but a little satisfied that my attempts were right, mostly. My scores came out, I cleared, my cut off was 36 and I am standing 15 marks away from it with a score of 51. I am not completely sure if it will fetch me a PO job or not, but I cleared, and I am happy about that. So ignore “Tukka” even those accidental ones.
Die hard preparation. Give mocks, countless mocks. Correct your mistakes learn how to solve the answers which you didn’t attempt the last time. Slowly you will see that your score is increasing.
Interviews, there is seriously no big deal about an Interview, they are just people like you, who are just old, Superior Bank Officials and they just want to talk to you. Just like you talk an old aunty or your uncle in your neighborhood about your studies, and you get random questions from them, unexpected ones.
WHERE DO I STAND?
Right now, I am preparing for my MCOM Part I exams. I am working in a Swimming Club as an Assistant Accountant presently. And also waiting to make the decision of the year 2015, about what to pick if I get in IBPS PO in April too (Thinking Positive). And after that I am eyeing for the bigger whale in the ocean, SSC CGL 2015, jiska notification is yet to come out.
Best of luck to my BA friends who are waiting for results in April. Lots of love. Thank you Shruti Ma’am/ Bankersadda for everything.
