IBPS RRB PO vs IBPS PO:

While the RRB PO exams are conducted for the post of Probationary Officers or Officer Scale-I in Regional Rural Banks, exams for IBPS PO are conducted for the recruitment of Probationary Officers in Public Sector Banks. Regional Rural Banks are specific to a particular region/state, thus with IBPS RRB you’ll get transferred mostly within your state, this may provide you with an opportunity to stay near your hometown. On the other hand IBPS PO is not state or regional level recruitment, after becoming IBPS PO you cab be transferred anywhere depending on your bank.

Examination Pattern

Both IBPS PO and RRB PO examinations have three stages, namely the Preliminary Exams, the Mains Exam and then the Interview. However, the pattern of these examinations is different for both posts. In IBPS PO, the Preliminary Examination consists of three sections, namely the English Language (30 marks), Reasoning Ability (35 marks) and Quantitative Aptitude (35 marks), which make up a total of 100 marks. The total time allotted is 60 minutes. On the other hand, in the RRB PO preliminary exam, the question paper is a total of 80 marks, with 40 marks each for Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude. There is no English Language Section in IBPS RRB PO Prelims. The total time to complete the paper in this case is 45 minutes.

On the other hand, the IBPS RRB PO main exam consists of a computer-based examination with no sectional time limit. The subjects tested include Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, General/Economy/ Banking Awareness, English Language and Data Analysis & Interpretation.  The total time for the paper is of 3 hours, with a maximum of 200 marks. In the IBPS PO exam, candidates also have to write a descriptive test, which includes letter writing and an essay of 25 marks. The Mains exam for IBPS PO includes a computer-based exam along with a descriptive test. Every section in this exam has a sectional time limit.

Eligibility Criteria

The age limit for candidates applying for IBPS PO is between 20 to 30 years of age, while for RRB PO, the age is 18 to 30 years for Office Scale I, 21 to 3 years for Officer Scale II and 21 to 40 years for Officer Scale III.

OTHER DIFFERENCES:

Moreover, RRB PO will only allow you to serve in a particular state. On the other hand, if you are an IBPS PO, you get to travel around the country for work.
