Railway Recruitment 2018 is going to be held to recruit candidates for the posts of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) & Technicians.  Railway Recruitment Board carries out this examination every year providing aspirants a golden opportunity to grab a job in the prestigious Government Sector. 

In order to apply for both the posts - ALP & Technicians, a single application is required to be submitted by all the candidates who wish to appear for the Railway Exam 2018.

As per a recent notification released by the Board, the upper age limit across categories has changed. Candidates who fall into the new age limit can start applying for the posts from 28th Februrary 2018.

A total of 26,502 vacancies have been announced by the board, according to the official notification. Aspirants who want to appear for the Railway exam, can apply online for the examination. Railway Recruitment 2018 Application Fee


The Online Application window for Railway Recruitment kick started from 3rd February 2018 and will wind up on 5th March 2018. Candidates belonging to general category will have to pay Rs. 500/- as application fee (UR & OBC) for Railway Recruitment 2018. While, candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Ex-Serviceman/ PWDs/ Female/ Transgender/ Minorities/ Economically backward class are required to pay Rs. 250/- as application fee.

It is now been declared by the Government that the application fee of Rs. 400/- will be refunded for Unreserved Candidates appearing for Railway Recruitment Exam and the complete exam fee of Rs. 250/- will be refunded for candidates belonging to reserved category.

Railway Recruitment Exam Dates 2018

The Computer Based Test (CBT) is tentatively going to be held in the month of April-May 2018. Dates for second stage of CBT has not been declared by Railway Recruitment Board. The complete schedule of Railway Exam 2018 is as follows:

Railway Recruitment 2018 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria to appear for Railway Exam 2018 exam revolves around two pre-requisites:
  • A candidate must be of 18-28 years to be eligible for Railway Recruitment 2018 exam.
  • Candidates need to hold Degree, Diploma and HSC (10+2) having eligibility for the posts of ALP and their engineering discipline(Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering , Mechanical Engineering ,Automobile Engineering with the combination of various streams in the respective Engineering Traits): post of Assistant Loco Pilot.
  • Those, candidates who have passed out with Physics and Maths in 12th Standard are eligible for Technician Grade III Signal and Technician Grade III Telecommunication posts namely Post 70 and Post 71 respectively.
  • A candidate is needed to be: A citizen of India, A subject of Nepal, A subject of Bhutan, A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently in India or a person of Indian origin who migrated to India from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam and have the intention of settling permanently in India.

The eligibility criteria for Railway Recruitment 2018 has been changed by Railway Railway Recruitment Board. The age limit for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot, Technicians and Level 1 posts have been increased. Let's have a look at the change in upper age limit of these posts:

Railway Recruitment Exam Pattern 2018 

Railway Recruitment Exam Pattern constitutes of two stages of CBT or Computer Based Test. Here are the details:

First stage of CBT

  • Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility is required in the following categories : UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%.
  • Comprises of multiple-choice objective type questions: bilingual (Hindi/English)
  • Negative Marking is applicable - For each wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.
  • Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for second stage will be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of ALP and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT.

  • All the candidates needs to secure a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible.
  • There shall be no negative marking in Computer Based AT.
  • The ALP merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based AT


  • Document Verification

    TECHNICIAN POST
    Based on the performance of candidates in Part Aof the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT

    ALP POST
    Based on the performance of candidates in both Part A of the Second Stage CBT and Computer Based AT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT.

    Note: Candidates attempting to submit application more than once will be disqualified from appearing for the examination.

    Railway Recruitment Admit Card 2018 


    All those candidates who successfully register for Railway Recruitment 2018 Exam will be issued Admit Card for first stage of CBT. Admit Card will be issued separately for Stage 1 CBT and Stage 2 CBT. Admit Card for Stage 2 CBT will be issued to candidates who will be clearing Stage 1 CBT of Railway Recruitment 2018.
    To login on the official website of Railway Recruitment Board, a candidate is needs to have:
    • Registration Number/Roll Number
    • Date of Birth/Password

    Railway Recruitment Result 2018 


    Railway Recruitment Board will be declaring the result for Stage 1 and Stage 2 CBT after the examination for the same has been concluded. Result will be declared for Stage 1 CBT first. Candidates who will clear Stage 1 CBT will be permitted to give Stage 2 of Railway Recruitment 2018 Exam. Result for Stage 2 CBT will will be released after the examination for the same will be concluded.
