The application supports Android and iOS platforms and operates in 16 regional languages.
    • Self-Enumeration (SE) Portal: For the first time, households will have the option to submit their information online through a secure portal before field enumeration begins. After submitting the data, a Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) will be generated, which can be shared with enumerators for verification.
    • Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) Portal: A centralized digital platform designed to plan, manage, execute, and monitor all census activities. It enables officials at sub-district, district, and state levels to track progress, monitor field operations, and oversee census activities through a real-time dashboard.
  • Phases of Census 2027:
    • Phase 1 – Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO): This phase will collect data on housing conditions and household amenities. The notification for Phase 1 was issued on 7 January 2026. The houselisting operation will be conducted between 1 April and 30 September 2026, during a 30-day period notified by each State or Union Territory. An optional 15-day Self-Enumeration period will precede the house-to-house survey.
    • Phase 2 – Population Enumeration (PE): This phase will collect demographic, social, and economic details of every individual in the country. It will be conducted in February 2027 across India. In this phase, caste-related questions will also be included.
  • Special Enumeration Areas: For the Union Territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, enumeration will take place in September 2026.
  • Reference Date: The reference date for Census 2027 will be 00:00 hours on 1 March 2027 for all States and Union Territories, except Ladakh and the snow-bound regions mentioned above, where the reference date will be 00:00 hours on 1 October 2026.
