- Rathindra Bose was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly, becoming the first legislator from north Bengal to hold the post in post-Independence history.
- His name was proposed in the Assembly by Suvendu Adhikari, after which pro tem Speaker Tapas Roy conducted a voice vote. All 207 BJP legislators supported Bose’s candidature, while the All India Trinamool Congress did not field any candidate.
- Bose, MLA from Cooch Behar Dakshin, was widely expected to win due to the BJP’s strong majority in the 294-member House following the recent Assembly elections. His appointment is also seen as a significant political message toward north Bengal, a region that has become an important support base for the BJP in the state.
India Launches ₹15,803 Crore AMCA Project for Fifth-Generation Stealth Fighter
- Rajnath Singh and N. Chandrababu Naidu launched the ₹15,803 crore Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project in the Sri Sathya Sai district.

PFRDA Relaxes NPS Annuity Exit Rules, Allows Limited Surrender in Hardship Cases
- Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has relaxed the annuity exit rules under the National Pension System, allowing limited surrender of annuity plans in specific hardship situations.
- The revised framework mainly benefits retirees facing critical medical emergencies or those holding older annuity policies that already included surrender provisions.
- Earlier, once retirees used their NPS corpus to purchase an annuity, exiting the plan was almost impossible except during the short “free look” cancellation period.
- Under the updated rules, Annuity Service Providers (ASPs) may now permit surrender if the annuitant or a family member suffers from a critical illness. Certain pre-October 24, 2024 annuity plans with existing surrender clauses may also qualify.
- The move aims to balance long-term retirement security with emergency financial needs. Under the new process, ASPs must clearly disclose surrender value, deductions, taxes, and charges, obtain written consent from the retiree, and transfer funds transparently while reporting cases to the Central Recordkeeping Agency within seven working days.
