MSDE Launches Navachar Mantra to Empower Rural Innovators and Entrepreneurs
- Navachar Mantra, launched by Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi on 3 June 2026, is a national entrepreneurship initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to support grassroots innovators and early-stage entrepreneurs, especially from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, rural areas, and aspirational districts.
- Implemented by National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development with Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer, it offers mentorship, investor access, business support, IP guidance, and market linkages in sectors like Agritech, HealthTech, EdTech, sustainability, and MSMEs. Applications are open until 5 July 2026.
Chandigarh University Becomes First Private University to Launch IndiaAI Data Lab with Intel
- Chandigarh University has become the first private university in India to establish an IndiaAI Data Lab in collaboration with Intel India.
- The lab, inaugurated at the University Institute of Computing (UIC), aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by providing hands-on training in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, and emerging technologies.
- The IndiaAI Data Lab will serve as a learning and innovation hub, offering students opportunities to work on real-world projects, research initiatives, hackathons, and industry-focused applications.
- It is designed to enhance employability by developing practical skills and industry readiness.
Chumur Becomes India’s First Model Border Village
- India has launched its first Model Border Village project at Chumur, a remote settlement in eastern Ladakh near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
- Situated at an altitude of 16,700 feet, Chumur has been selected under the Vibrant Village Programme to become a self-reliant, climate-resilient, and economically vibrant frontier village.
- The foundation stone was laid by Vinai Kumar Saxena on 3 June 2026.
- Located in the Changthang region, the village has about 91 residents and 24 households. The project focuses on climate-resilient housing, livelihood generation, tourism promotion, economic self-reliance, and community development.
- It is expected to serve as a model for sustainable development in India’s high-altitude border areas and support the goals of the Vibrant Village Programme launched in 2023.
Twin Tunnels at Fotu La Pass to Transform Srinagar-Kargil-Leh Highway Connectivity
- The Government of India has initiated bidding for the ₹824 crore Fotu La Tunnel project on NH-1 in Ladakh.
- The project includes twin uni-directional tunnels of nearly 2 km each beneath the Fotu La Pass, the highest point on the Srinagar–Kargil–Leh highway.
- Designed to overcome heavy snowfall and winter disruptions, the tunnels will provide safer, all-weather connectivity.
- Along with the upcoming Zojila Tunnel, the project will strengthen transportation, tourism, economic activity, and strategic military logistics in the Himalayan border region.

Bangladesh’s Khalilur Rahman Elected President of UN General Assembly’s 81st Session
- Khalilur Rahman has been elected President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly after defeating Andreas Kakouris of Cyprus in a closely contested vote.
- Rahman secured 99 votes against 91 and will assume office on 8 September 2026 for a one-year term.
- A veteran diplomat with over four decades of experience, Rahman currently serves as Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister and has held key roles in international diplomacy.
- His presidency comes at a crucial time, as the UN prepares for the selection of a successor to António Guterres. His six priorities include peace and security, SDGs, climate action, human rights, emerging technologies, and UN reform.
- The session’s theme is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”

MoSPI Releases Final Guidelines for District Domestic Product Estimates with New Base Year 2022-23
- The National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the final Uniform Guidelines for District Domestic Product (DDP) Estimates with base year 2022–23.
- The guidelines establish a standardized methodology for estimating Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP), Net District Domestic Product (NDDP), and Per Capita Income (PCI) across districts.
- Emphasizing a bottom-up approach using district-level data, the framework aims to improve accuracy, comparability, and consistency in economic statistics.
- It will support decentralized planning, evidence-based policymaking, regional development, and better resource allocation, while creating a harmonized system for district-level economic measurement across India.
India Emerges As World’s 5th Most Digitalised Economy: SIDE 2026 Report
- According to the 2026 State of India’s Digital Economy (SIDE) Report, released by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations and the Prosus Centre for Internet and Digital Economy, India has emerged as the world’s fifth most digitalised economy.
- The report evaluates countries using the CHIPS framework—Connect, Harness, Innovate, Protect, and Sustain.
- India improved its ranking from 8th place in 2025 to 5th place in 2026 among 71 countries, reflecting rapid growth in digital infrastructure and technology adoption. The country also secured 4th position globally in AI readiness, behind only the United States, China, and Singapore.

- India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been launched in Cambodia through a partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited and ACLEDA Bank Plc..
- Under Phase 1, Indian travellers can make seamless QR-code payments at over 4.5 million merchants using UPI apps via Cambodia’s KHQR network and Bakong payment system.
- The initiative enhances convenience, security, and cashless transactions for tourists and businesses. Phase 2 will enable Cambodian users to make payments in India, creating a two-way cross-border payment corridor.
- Cambodia becomes the ninth country to accept UPI, joining Singapore, United Arab Emirates, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, and Sri Lanka.

Hero Creates History With India’s First Flex-Fuel Bikes
- Hero MotoCorp has created history by launching India’s first production-ready flex-fuel motorcycles—the Hero Splendor Plus Flex Fuel and Hero HF Deluxe Flex Fuel.
- Launched by Nitin Gadkari, the motorcycles are priced at ₹82,710 and ₹72,792 (ex-showroom), respectively.
- The bikes can operate on ethanol-blended fuels ranging from E20 to E85, helping reduce crude oil imports, lower carbon emissions, and support domestic biofuel production.
- Both models are powered by a 97.2cc single-cylinder engine producing 8.6 hp and 8.3 Nm of torque. Sales will begin in July 2026 in Delhi and parts of Maharashtra before expanding nationwide, marking a major step toward cleaner and more sustainable mobility in India.

Pahlaj Nihalani Passes Away at 76: Former CBFC Chairperson and Film Producer Dies
- Pahlaj Nihalani, noted film producer and former chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), passed away on 4 June 2026 at the age of 76 after battling liver-related ailments.
- He produced several popular Hindi films, including Aankhen, Ilzaam, and Rangeela Raja. Nihalani served as CBFC chief from 2015 to 2017 and was known for his controversial censorship decisions. He also played a key role in launching the career of Govinda through his debut film Ilzaam.
