Transactions are initiated in Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) and are credited directly in Indian Rupees (INR) to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India.
In the initial phase, the service is available to customers of Bank of Maldives Plc and Maldives Islamic Bank Plc.
Users can make person-to-person (P2P) transfers through their mobile banking applications using the Favara payment platform.
Initially, the facility supports family-maintenance remittances under both inward and outward remittance categories, along with gift-related remittances permitted under foreign outward remittance regulations.
The cross-border payment corridor was developed through collaboration between the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), participating financial institutions and other stakeholders.
The integration follows an agreement signed between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) in July 2025.

About Dhimsa Dance

The dance is traditionally performed during festivals, weddings, and the annual hunting festival held in April, when men and women dance together for several hours.
There are 12 recognised varieties of the Dhimsa dance.
The dance is believed to have originated in the Koraput region, the traditional homeland of the Ghond (Gond) Tribe.
