FASTag One Tag System Enables Easy Bank Switching

The FASTag One Tag system was launched on September 11, 2026, at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.
It allows users to change their issuing bank without replacing the physical FASTag sticker.
The facility enables users to digitally shift their backend banking relationship through the Rajmarg Yatra app.
FASTag uses RFID technology to automatically deduct toll payments from the linked account.
More than 98% of national highway user fees are now collected digitally, with around 13 crore FASTags issued across India.

Bakhira Lake Sediments Reveal 25,000 Years Of Monsoon History

Sediments beneath Bakhira Lake in Uttar Pradesh have helped reconstruct changes in the Indian Summer Monsoon over 25,000 years.
Researchers from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences analysed magnetic, grain-size, geochemical and clay-mineral data.
The sediment record covers major climatic phases such as the Last Glacial Maximum, Younger Dryas and Holocene Climatic Optimum.
Bakhira Lake has been recognised as a Ramsar Site since 2022.
The lake lies within the Ghaghara-Rapti alluvial system and preserves environmental information from its surrounding catchment.

Centre Proposes Article 371(K) Constitutional Safeguards For Ladakh

The Centre has proposed Article 371(K) as a special constitutional framework for Ladakh.
The proposal followed discussions with the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
The proposed governing body could have legislative powers over land, culture, language, forests, environment and natural resources.
Ladakh became a Union Territory without a legislative assembly in 2019 following the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Its existing Leh and Kargil Hill Councils currently do not enjoy Sixth Schedule protection.

US President Donald Trump has proposed a universal $5,000 “Trump Dividend” for eligible adult American citizens.
The proposal would apply if Republicans retain control of the US Congress.
With around 270 million adult citizens, the programme could cost approximately $1.35 trillion.
The estimated expenditure would equal around 3% of US GDP.
Trump has suggested funding the payments through economic growth and increased tariff revenues.

RBI Introduces New UPI Features For Safer Digital Payments

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced new features to make UPI payments more convenient and secure.

Transactions below ₹5,000 will not require a PIN under the Tap-to-Pay facility.
MyUPI will provide a unified view of UPI transactions and AutoPay mandates across banks and apps.
The new features also include a Safety Switch and automated chargebacks for eligible transactions.

India’s 7.8% Growth Strengthens Position As Global Growth Engine

India’s real GDP grew 7.8% in the April-June quarter of FY2026-27.

IMF official Julie Kozack attributed the strong performance mainly to robust services activity and exports.
MoSPI estimated real GDP at ₹81.36 lakh crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹75.46 lakh crore a year earlier.
