India Diversifies Urea Imports Amid West Asia Supply Disruptions

India diversified its urea imports in 2026 to maintain fertiliser availability amid supply disruptions caused by the West Asia war.
Between April and June, India imported 15.08 lakh tonnes of urea from 17 countries.
Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and Georgia together supplied 52% of the 2.5 million tonnes of imported urea.
June shipments included 3.95 lakh tonnes from Egypt, 1.65 lakh tonnes from Algeria, 1.38 lakh tonnes from Nigeria and 1.22 lakh tonnes from Georgia.
India also moved fertiliser shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and finalised a 2.5-million-tonne import tender through Indian Potash Limited.

MSME Ministry, DPIIT Partner to Expand GI Product Markets

The Ministry of MSME and DPIIT signed an MoU on August 5, 2026, to improve market access for Geographical Indication products.

GI collectives and authorised users will be onboarded onto ONDC and Government e-Marketplace under the “Bharat GI” banner.
