NHAI Plans AI Upgrade For 1033 Highway Emergency Helpline

NHAI plans to modernise the 1033 National Highway Helpline using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The 24×7 helpline was introduced in 2018 for highway emergencies.
It currently covers more than 1.46 lakh km of National Highways.
The helpline receives around 15,000 calls daily.
The proposed Next Generation 1033 platform will offer multilingual AI support, caller-location tracking, smart dispatch and proactive alerts.
It will help deploy suitable ambulances, cranes and patrol vehicles based on incidents.
Key Fact: IHMCL has invited industry participation to develop and maintain the upgraded platform.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026 Promotes Service And Citizen Participation

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026 is a nationwide public outreach and service campaign.
It will be conducted from 17 September to 17 October 2026.
The campaign marks 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public service.
It aims to strengthen Jan Bhagidari and support the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Activities include blood donation, cleanliness drives, health programmes and awareness campaigns.
Youth participation and entrepreneurship will be promoted through grassroots initiatives.

WCEF 2026 Begins In Gandhinagar With India’s Circular Economy Vision

The World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 began in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on September 15.
It is the first WCEF edition in South Asia.
The forum was inaugurated by Bhupender Yadav and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel.
The four-day event is being held under the theme “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity.”
More than 3,600 participants from 62 countries and 135 exhibitors are participating.
India highlighted repair, reuse, resource recovery and stronger Extended Producer Responsibility frameworks.

Scotland Wales And Northern Ireland Sign Self Determination Pact

Political leaders from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland signed a memorandum on democratic self-determination.
The pact was signed in Cardiff.
Signatories included John Swinney, Rhun ap Iorwerth and Michelle O’Neill.
Sinn Fein president Mary Lou McDonald also signed the agreement.
It calls for the right of people in the three nations to determine their political futures.
The agreement also seeks cooperation in economic and energy matters and supports a future EU relationship.

Saudi Arabia Discovers Major Rare Earth Resources At Jabal Sayid

Saudi Arabia has announced major rare earth and uranium resources at the Jabal Sayid project.
The discovery involves around 110 million tonnes of ore in the Madinah region.
Estimated resources include 552,000 tonnes of heavy rare earths and 355,000 tonnes of light rare earths.
Heavy rare earths include dysprosium and terbium, while light rare earths include neodymium and praseodymium.
The deposits also contain approximately 31,000 tonnes of uranium.
The discovery could strengthen Saudi Arabia’s critical-mineral supply chain and nuclear-energy ambitions.

UPI Payments Up to ₹2,000 Remain Free From Bank Charges

The government has clarified that UPI payments up to ₹2,000 will remain free from bank charges.
Banks and payment system providers cannot charge eligible senders or receivers.
The same protection applies to RuPay debit card payments up to ₹2,000.
The clarification was issued through a Finance Ministry gazette notification.
The notification was issued under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
Person-to-person UPI transactions will continue to remain free.
Key Fact: No blanket Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will apply to merchants.

EPFO Launches WhatsApp Channel For Updates And Member Services

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched its official WhatsApp channel.
It will provide verified updates, scheme information, alerts and important announcements.
The channel currently operates mainly as a broadcast platform.
It does not replace the EPFO member portal, passbook services or UMANG app.
Interactive services such as PF balance and claim-status checking may be introduced separately.
Members should use only verified EPFO channels and avoid sharing sensitive credentials.
Key Fact: Users should never share OTPs, passwords, UPI PINs or bank credentials with unauthorised persons.

PLFS August 2026 Shows Lower Unemployment And Rising Participation

The August 2026 PLFS reported a modest improvement in India’s labour-market indicators.
Overall LFPR increased to 55.6% from 55.4% in July.
The WPR rose to 52.8% from 52.5%.
The overall unemployment rate declined to 5.0% from 5.1%.
Rural unemployment fell to 4.1%, while rural LFPR rose to 58.2%.
Female LFPR increased to 34.8%, driven mainly by higher rural participation.

India’s August Trade Deficit Narrows As Exports Surge 26%

India’s merchandise trade deficit narrowed to $26.86 billion in August 2026.
Goods exports increased 26% year-on-year to $43.81 billion.
Imports rose 14% to $70.67 billion during the month.
The August deficit was lower than July’s $31.98 billion.
Merchandise exports during April-August 2026 reached $215.91 billion.
Imports during the same period stood at around $363 billion, creating a cumulative deficit of approximately $147 billion.

India’s Retail Inflation Rises To 4.82% In August 2026

India’s retail inflation rose to 4.82% in August 2026 from 4.45% in July.
Food inflation increased to 5.95% from 5.52%.
Rural inflation stood at 5.23%, while urban inflation was 4.31%.
Rural food inflation reached 6.13%, compared with 5.64% in urban areas.
Silver jewellery recorded the highest item-level inflation at 107.11%.
Tomato prices recorded the lowest inflation at -31.09%.
Key Fact: Telangana recorded the highest listed state inflation at 6.27%.

The Department of Financial Services (DFS) won the First Prize under Rajbhasha Kirti for 2025–26.

Chandrayaan-1 Reveals Evidence Of An Ancient Lost Moon Basin

India’s Chandrayaan-1 mission has provided mineralogical evidence of the ancient Australe Basin.
Researchers from PRL Ahmedabad analysed data from the Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3).
They identified a circular distribution of orthopyroxene around the suspected basin.
The mineral pattern appears to trace the boundary of the largely obliterated basin.
Researchers also identified the approximately 880-km-wide Australe North Basin.
Mare Australe basalts formed between about 3.9 billion and 1 billion years ago.
Key Fact: The Australe Basin may be as old as or older than the 4.25-billion-year-old South Pole–Aitken Basin.

New Frog Species Ingerana aizawl Discovered In Mizoram

Researchers have formally identified a new frog species named Ingerana aizawl.
The species was discovered near Hratdawng Stream on the Mizoram University campus.
Researchers from Mizoram University, Cotton University and Help Earth described the species.
The study combined morphological features with mitochondrial 16S rRNA DNA analysis.
Genetic divergence from Ingerana occidens was 4.8–6.6%.
The frog inhabits streams and wetlands and breeds mainly during the May–July monsoon.
Key Fact: The species was previously misidentified as Ingerana borealis.

The day marks the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

He contributed significantly to irrigation, water management, flood protection and infrastructure.
He played an important role in the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam.
He served as Dewan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918 and received the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
