India’s Seafood Exports Hit Record ₹73,890 Crore in FY 2025–26
- India achieved its highest-ever seafood exports in FY 2025–26, exporting 19.72 lakh metric tonnes worth ₹73,890.46 crore (USD 8.46 billion), according to the Marine Products Export Development Authority.
- Frozen shrimp remained the leading export, contributing 66.5% of total export earnings with exports worth USD 5.62 billion.
- The United States was the largest market by value (USD 2.33 billion), while China was the largest importer by quantity. Other strong-performing products included frozen fish, squid, cuttlefish, dried seafood, surimi, fishmeal, and fish oil.
- Major export hubs were Visakhapatnam, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Kochi, Kolkata, and Chennai.
Industrial Output Grows 4.9% in April 2026 as India Adopts New IIP Series
- India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew by 4.9% in April 2026, with the index rising to 118.9 from 113.4 a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
- Growth was driven mainly by manufacturing (6.2%), while water supply and waste management (6.6%) and electricity and gas supply (4.9%) also expanded; mining and quarrying contracted by 5.1%. MoSPI introduced a new IIP base year of 2022-23, replacing 2011-12, expanding coverage to sectors such as gas supply, renewable energy, water management, and rare earth minerals.
- The revised series also includes modern products like CCTV cameras, medical stents, vaccines, and aircraft parts, making industrial measurement more reflective of India’s evolving economy.

President Approves Appointment of Five New Supreme Court Judges
- The Central Government has approved the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court of India following the increase in the Court’s sanctioned strength from 34 to 38 judges.
- Recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium under CJI Surya Kant, the appointees are Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Arun Palli, and Senior Advocate V. Mohana.
- Notably, V. Mohana becomes only the second woman directly elevated from the Bar to the Supreme Court. The move aims to reduce case pendency, strengthen judicial capacity, and improve the efficiency of justice delivery.
