Lok Sabha Passes Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026

The Lok Sabha passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 to strengthen India’s legal framework against paper leaks and examination-related fraud.
The amended law increases punishment for offenders to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹50 lakh, while organized examination fraud may attract a minimum of 7 years’ imprisonment and fines up to ₹10 crore.
The Bill mandates that investigations into paper leak cases must be completed within two months, with trials expected to conclude within three months after filing of the charge sheet through designated fast-track courts.
The Central Government has also been empowered to constitute a Special Task Force (STF) to investigate major paper leak cases involving organized criminal networks.

India’s First Telecom Manufacturing Zone to be Established in Gwalior

India’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) will be established in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, to strengthen domestic telecom manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
The project will be developed over 350 acres, with the Central Government providing ₹493 crore for the first phase, while the State Government will provide land.

Twenty-Four Countries Partner with India to Adopt India Stack

India has partnered with 24 countries to share components of its Digital Public Infrastructure (India Stack), strengthening India’s role as a global digital technology leader.
India Stack includes platforms such as Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker, e-KYC, eSign, and the Account Aggregator Framework.
Kenya and Cuba have already started implementing DigiLocker, while UPI merchant payments are available across several countries, including Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, Qatar, and Cambodia.
India is also in discussions with countries such as Laos, Seychelles, Armenia, Fiji, Guyana, Colombia, and Venezuela to expand digital governance solutions.

President Droupadi Murmu Launches Six New Initiatives After Completing Four Years in Office

Chhattisgarh Launches DWEEPTI Yojana for Women-led Solar Enterprises

The scheme aims to establish 5,000 women-led solar enterprises and generate nearly 50,000 green jobs, empowering rural Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as solar entrepreneurs.
Under the initiative, the government plans to provide clean energy access to 5 lakh households and nearly 10,000 public institutions across the state.
Kabirdham district has become the first implementation district, while trained SHG members, known as Solar Didis, will undertake rooftop solar installation and maintenance work.

RBI Proposes Demat-Only Securitisation Notes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released draft amendments proposing that all Securitisation Notes (SNs) should be issued, held, and transferred exclusively in dematerialised (demat) form.
The proposal seeks to improve transparency, investor protection, operational efficiency, and liquidity in India’s securitisation and debt markets.
RBI has also proposed to retain the minimum investment requirement of ₹1 crore, which will remain applicable both at the time of issuance and during every subsequent transfer.
Public comments on the draft have been invited until 27 August 2026, with the revised framework proposed to become effective from 1 October 2026.

OmniCard Launches India’s First UPI-Based Flexi Benefits Wallet

OmniCard, developed by Eroute Technologies Private Limited, has launched India’s first UPI-based Flexi Benefits Wallet, allowing employees to utilize tax-saving benefits through a single digital wallet.
Built on an RBI-licensed Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) platform, the wallet can be used at nearly 60 million UPI-enabled merchants across the country using Scan-and-Pay functionality.
Employees can utilize benefits across multiple categories, including Meals, Fuel, Telecom, Books & Periodicals, Gadgets, and other approved allowances.
The platform incorporates Merchant Category Code (MCC)-based controls to ensure tax compliance and prevent misuse of employee benefit allowances.

MoSPI Replaces WPI with Producer Price Index (PPI) for GDP Estimation

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has announced that the Output Producer Price Index (PPI) will replace the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) as the GDP deflator for quarterly and annual GDP estimates wherever applicable.
The reform is aimed at improving the accuracy of GDP estimation, aligning India’s national accounts with international statistical standards, and better reflecting changes in production costs.
India will also adopt the Double Deflation Method, under which output and input prices will be adjusted separately to provide a more accurate estimate of Real Gross Value Added (GVA).
As part of the revised methodology, the GDP base year has been updated from 2011–12 to 2022–23, while the Producer Price Index series released by DPIIT in June 2026 will play a central role in GDP calculations.
