Indian Railways Launches New 18-Star Logo After Creation of South Coast Railway Zone

• Indian Railways will operationalize the South Coast Railway (SCoR) on 1 June 2026, making it the country’s 18th railway zone. Headquartered in Visakhapatnam, SCoR has been formed by reorganizing parts of East Coast Railway and South Central Railway.
• It will include the Guntakal, Guntur, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam divisions. Indian Railways has also unveiled a new 18-star logo representing its 18 zones.
• The headquarters at Mudasarlova, Visakhapatnam, is being developed at a cost of ₹183.58 crore and will serve parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Bengaluru Surpasses Mumbai to Become India’s Second-Busiest Domestic Airport

• Kempegowda International Airport became India’s second-busiest domestic airport in April 2026, handling 3.28 million domestic passengers, surpassing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which handled 2.89 million.
• Bengaluru’s growth is driven by its status as a technology and business hub, modern infrastructure, and a parallel runway system that supports more flights.
• Mumbai faces capacity constraints and slot saturation, while traffic is increasingly shifting to Navi Mumbai International Airport. Meanwhile, Indira Gandhi International Airport remains India’s busiest airport overall.

India Launches First SkyCast System at Delhi Airport to Reduce Flight Delays

• Indira Gandhi International Airport has launched the advanced SkyCast System under Mission Mausam to improve aviation safety and real-time weather forecasting.
• Inaugurated by Jitendra Singh, the system monitors fog, visibility, wind, turbulence, and atmospheric conditions using technologies like Radar Wind Profiler, SODAR, Microwave Radiometer, and Lidar-based Ceilometer.
• SkyCast aims to reduce flight delays, diversions, and cancellations caused by poor weather, especially during Delhi’s winter fog, while helping pilots and airport authorities make safer operational decisions through real-time atmospheric intelligence.

Government Launches Common Landing Portal to Help Citizens Find Unclaimed Financial Assets

• The Department of Financial Services has launched the Common Landing Portal to help citizens search and trace unclaimed financial assets through a single online platform.
• Developed with the PSB Alliance, the portal supports the government’s “आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार (Your Money, Your Right)” campaign.
• Users can search for unclaimed bank deposits, insurance claims, shares, mutual funds, and unpaid dividends without visiting multiple websites.
• The initiative aims to improve financial awareness, transparency, and convenience while simplifying the process of recovering rightful funds and assets.

Odisha, Intel and 3D Glass Solutions Sign $3.3 Billion Semiconductor Manufacturing Deal

• The Government of Odisha, Intel Corporation, and 3D Glass Solutions have signed a $3.3 billion MoU to establish an advanced glass core substrate manufacturing facility in the Bhubaneswar–Khurda region.
• The project will produce advanced packaging glass core substrates, high-density interconnect (HDI) substrates, and next-generation semiconductor components.
• Supported by the India Semiconductor Mission, the facility aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem, reduce import dependence, and enhance capabilities in chip packaging and advanced electronics manufacturing.
• The investment highlights growing global confidence in India as an emerging semiconductor manufacturing hub.

Government Approves Two New SEZs in Puducherry, Investment to Cross ₹1,975 Crore

• The Department of Commerce has approved two new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Puducherry to boost investment, exports, and employment generation.
• One major project is an IT/ITES SEZ by Oulgaret Municipality, which will become India’s first municipality-developed SEZ.
• Another multi-sector SEZ will be developed by Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation at Karasur village.
• These projects aim to strengthen Puducherry as a growing industrial and technology hub, while supporting export-led growth and enhancing the economic development of the Tamil Nadu–Andaman & Puducherry (TAP) region.

Kerala Launches Senior Citizens’ Welfare Department, First-of-Its-Kind Initiative

• Kerala has announced a dedicated Department for Senior Citizens’ Welfare to design and implement welfare schemes, coordinate existing programmes, and address challenges such as ageing and social isolation.
• The state also proposed the Oommen Chandy Health Insurance Scheme, offering up to ₹25 lakh annual health coverage per family.
• The Cabinet approved the Kerala State Policy for Senior Citizens 2026, promoting dignity and protection for the elderly.
• With 18.7% of its population above 60, Kerala has India’s highest elderly population share and has also presented the country’s first dedicated Elderly Budget.

• Ajay Kochhar assumed charge as the 48th Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) of the Indian Navy on May 29, 2026.
• With over 37 years of naval service, he brings extensive experience in naval warfare, fleet operations, and strategic leadership.
• Previously, he served as Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
• A specialist in Gunnery and Missile Systems, he commanded major naval assets including INS Vikramaditya and received prestigious honours such as the PVSM, AVSM, and Nau Sena Medal for his distinguished service.

Rajesh Kumar Singh Takes Additional Charge as DRDO Chairman After Samir Kamat’s Retirement

• The Central Government has appointed Rajesh Kumar Singh as the additional Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, and Chairman of DRDO, effective 31 May 2026, following the retirement of Samir V. Kamat.
• Approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Singh will continue as Defence Secretary while leading Defence Research and Development Organisation.
• During Kamat’s tenure (since August 2022), DRDO advanced research in quantum computing, stealth UCAVs, EMALS, electric warship propulsion, space-based ISR, and defence innovation.

• The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed annually on 29 May to honor the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of UN peacekeepers serving worldwide.
