Mission Rangeen Machhli 2031 to Boost Ornamental Fisheries

Mission Rangeen Machhli 2031 is a strategic action plan for developing India’s ornamental fisheries sector.
The Vice President will release it during a fisheries outreach programme at Agatti, Lakshadweep, on August 31, 2026.
It aims to establish a national framework covering scientific management, biosecurity, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
The plan will standardise broodstock management, breeding, hatcheries, quarantine, health management, traceability, aquarium operations, transportation and trade.
It will also strengthen stakeholder skills, product quality, certification and market access, while leveraging Lakshadweep’s rich marine resources and nearly 4-lakh-sq-km EEZ.

Indian Standard Time Rules 2026 Set Common National Time

The Department of Consumer Affairs notified the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026 on August 27.
The rules establish Indian Standard Time (IST) as the common reference for legal, administrative, commercial and official purposes across India.
They will come into force 180 days after publication in the Official Gazette.
The framework is expected to improve accurate time-stamping in banking, digital payments, telecom, transport, power networks, government records and emergency services.
NavIC and approved Indian timing sources will support secure dissemination of IST and reduce dependence on foreign satellite timing systems.

Preparation for the Union Budget 2027-28 will officially begin on October 12, 2026.

Himachal Launches First Ozone-Based Drinking Water Project

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the state’s first ozone-based drinking water treatment project in Dehra, Kangra.
The project has been allocated ₹46 crore and will use ozone gas to disinfect drinking water and improve its taste.
Sukhu said the model would be expanded to other areas of the state.

Veligonda Project Set to Fulfil Three-Decade Irrigation Dream

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is set to inaugurate Phase-I of the Pula Subbaiah Veligonda Project on August 31.

It will divert surplus Krishna floodwaters through twin underground tunnels beneath the Nallamala range.

Around 930 Indian companies now support aircraft maintenance across mechanical, electrical, electronics and rubber components.
The localisation drive has produced nearly 62,300 spare parts, including 97% of frequently required operational spares and 93% of mandatory overhaul spares.
The IAF is using Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins and predictive analytics to detect equipment failures before they affect operations.
A 3D Additive Manufacturing facility established in 2022 produces urgent, low-volume airborne and ground-equipment spares using aluminium, steel and titanium alloys.

National Small Industry Day Highlights MSME Growth Importance

National Small Industry Day is observed annually on August 30 to recognise small industries’ contribution to entrepreneurship, employment and economic growth.
India’s MSME framework evolved through the 2000 policy package and the MSMED Act, 2006, with revised classification thresholds effective from April 1, 2025.
Current limits classify micro enterprises at ₹2.5 crore investment and ₹10 crore turnover, small enterprises at ₹25 crore and ₹100 crore, and medium enterprises at ₹125 crore and ₹500 crore.
MSMEs contribute 31.1% of GDP, 35.4% of manufacturing output and 48.58% of exports, while employing more than 38.9 crore people.
TReDS expansion, Udyam registrations, enhanced credit guarantees and courier-export reforms have strengthened MSME formalisation and access to finance.
