1. Dibrugarh Sends First International Cargo Shipment Since Independence
- Dibrugarh, Assam sent its first international cargo shipment since Independence from the Bogibeel Terminal.
- A barge carrying 540 metric tonnes of methanol was flagged off by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
- The methanol was produced by Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APCL), Namrup.
- The shipment is being transported to Pangaon Port in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
- The vessel DLB Patkai is being pushed by tug Kushal Konwar.
- The route uses the Brahmaputra River and National Waterway-2 (NW-2).
- NW-2 extends from Sadiya to Dhubri in Assam and is about 891 km long.
2. India’s First National Household Travel Survey
- The National Statistics Office (NSO) under MoSPI released findings of India’s first-ever National Household Travel Survey (NHTS).
- The survey was conducted from July 2025 to June 2026.
- It covered 4,92,023 households, 14,274 villages and 10,377 urban blocks.
- Two-wheelers were the most widely used mode for workers, accounting for 42.6% of workplace travel.
- 66.4% of students aged 6 years and above travelled at least 1 km to educational institutions.
- For overnight household travel, buses accounted for 55.8% and inter-city railways 17.7%.
- The survey treated trips of 1 km or more as “travel”.
3. India Participates in 153rd IPU Assembly
- An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, participated in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
- The Assembly is being held in Arusha, Tanzania.
- The inaugural ceremony was addressed by Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania.
- Indian MPs participated in the IPU Committee on Health, Asia-Pacific Geopolitical Group and Forum of Women Parliamentarians.
- Aparajita Sarangi participated as a member of the IPU Executive Committee.
- India also held bilateral meetings with Milton Dick, Speaker of Australia’s House of Representatives, and Mussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of Tanzania’s Parliament.
4. NABKISAN Lists India’s First WASH Social Bond
- NABKISAN Finance Limited, a subsidiary of NABARD, listed India’s first social bond dedicated exclusively to the WASH sector.
- The bond was listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Mumbai, on 2 October 2026.
- The issue raised ₹180 crore with a tenure of five years.
- It carries a coupon rate of 8.10% and will mature in September 2031.
- WASH stands for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
- The bond was oversubscribed 1.8 times.
- It received CRISIL AAA (Stable) and CARE AAA (Stable) ratings.
- Water.org served as the technical advisor and knowledge partner.

5. Odisha Launches MICE Incentive Portal
- The Odisha government launched India’s first dedicated MICE Incentive Portal.
- The portal was launched by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida during Odisha Travel Bazaar 2026.
- MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions.
- The portal aims to promote Odisha as a destination for business tourism, corporate events and investment.
- It will help event organisers access financial incentives and streamline applications.
- Bhubaneswar, known as the “Temple City”, is being promoted as a key destination.

6. IOA Announces First Jaspal Rana and Raja Randhir Singh Awards
- The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) named Kumkum Anil Mohod and Sujeet Kalkal as the inaugural recipients of two new awards.
- Jaspal Rana Award: Kumkum Anil Mohod – Best Female Sportsperson of the Asian Games.
- Raja Randhir Singh Award: Sujeet Kalkal – Best Male Sportsperson of the Asian Games.
- Kumkum won three medals, including two golds, at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
- Sujeet won gold in the men’s 65 kg freestyle wrestling category.
- India finished fourth in the Asian Games medal table with 21 Gold, 27 Silver and 37 Bronze medals.
7. Francis Halzen Wins Nobel Prize in Physics 2026
- Francis Halzen has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2026 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
- He was honoured for his decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.
- The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is located at the South Pole, Antarctica, and uses Antarctic glacial ice to detect neutrinos.
- Neutrinos, often called “ghost particles,” are electrically neutral subatomic particles that interact very weakly with matter.
- IceCube detects the tiny flashes of Cherenkov radiation produced when neutrinos interact with matter.
- His work helped establish neutrino astronomy and advance multi-messenger astronomy, providing a new way to study powerful cosmic phenomena.

8. Three High Court Chief Justices Appointed as Supreme Court Judges
- On 5 October 2026, the President of India appointed three serving High Court Chief Justices as Judges of the Supreme Court of India.
- Justice Sunita Agarwal – Chief Justice, Gujarat High Court; Parent High Court: Allahabad High Court.
- Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya – Chief Justice, Delhi High Court; Parent High Court: Allahabad High Court.
- Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh – Chief Justice, Telangana High Court; Parent High Court: Jharkhand High Court.
- Supreme Court judges are appointed by the President under Article 124(2) of the Constitution.
- The appointments were announced by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

9. Chintan Shivir 2026 – National Conclave on Highway Infrastructure
- Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated Chintan Shivir 2026 at Ekta Nagar, Narmada district, Gujarat.

- It focuses on improving coordination between the Centre and States for highway infrastructure development.

10. SpaceXAI to Be Renamed SpaceXSI
- Elon Musk confirmed that SpaceX’s AI division SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI.
- SI stands for Super Intelligence.
- The proposed rebranding follows the US administration’s promotion of the term “Super Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence”.
- US President Donald Trump signed the Executive Order “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence” on 29 September 2026.
- The order directs the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) to propose a federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI”.

11. India-UAE Joint Military Exercise MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN 2026
- Exercise MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN 2026 commenced on 5 October 2026 at Chaubatia, Uttarakhand.
- It is a joint military exercise between the Indian Army and UAE Army.
- The exercise will continue till 18 October 2026.
- 92 personnel are participating, with equal representation from both armies.
- The Indian contingent comprises troops from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE contingent includes troops from a Mountain Infantry Battalion.
- The main focus is mountain warfare, interoperability and military cooperation.
- Key activities include drone operations, firing drills, surveillance, rock climbing, obstacle training and integrated field exercises.
12. First Indigenous Fleet Support Ship ‘Surya’ Launched
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched India’s first indigenous Fleet Support Ship (FSS-1) ‘Surya’ on 6 October 2026.
- The ship was launched at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam.
- He also laid the keel of the fifth Fleet Support Ship (FSS-5).
- Fleet Support Ships provide fuel, supplies, maintenance and logistics support to naval vessels during extended operations.
- The ships feature at-sea replenishment capability, maintenance workshops and a helicopter deck.
- The upgraded Slipway-4 at HSL can support vessels of up to 45,000 DWT.
- A new 300-tonne Goliath Crane was also inaugurated.
- HSL achieved Miniratna Category-I status in 2025.
- The government aims to develop Visakhapatnam as a major Maritime Industrial Hub.

13. Bank of Baroda Enters Pension Fund Business
- Bank of Baroda (BoB) became the second Public Sector Bank (PSB) in India to enter the pension fund business.
- It received a Certificate of Appointment as Sponsor of a Pension Fund from PFRDA.
- The approval was granted under Section 27 of the PFRDA Act, 2013.
- BoB has established BoB Pension Fund Management Company Limited.
- Shareholding: Bank of Baroda – 80.10% and Baroda BNP Asset Management Company – 19.90%.
- SBI was the first PSB to enter the pension fund business in April 2008.
- BoB has also integrated Tatkal NPS with the BHIM App.

14. Harmanpreet Kaur Steps Down as India Women’s Captain
- Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as captain of the Indian women’s cricket team across all formats on 6 October 2026.
- She will continue to play for India.
- She became India’s T20I captain in 2016 and full-time ODI and Test captain in 2022.
- She led India to its maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title in 2025.
- She also led India to back-to-back Asian Games gold medals in 2022 and 2026.
- Harmanpreet became the first player to captain a team in more than 150 T20Is.
- She also became the first player to complete 200 T20Is in June 2026.

- The roots of the observance date back to the formation of the Indian Board for Wildlife in 1952.
- National Wildlife Day was first observed in 1955, while the observance became a week-long programme in 1957.
- World Wildlife Day is observed globally on 3 March.
16. World Cerebral Palsy Day 2026
- World Cerebral Palsy Day is observed annually on 6 October.
- The 2026 theme is “Unique and United”.
- Campaign hashtag: #UniqueANDUnited.
- The day promotes inclusion, accessibility, equal rights and participation of people with cerebral palsy.
- The global movement was established in 2012 by Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Australia, and United Cerebral Palsy, USA.
- Cerebral palsy primarily affects movement, muscle control, balance, posture and coordination.
- India’s Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 provides a rights-based framework for persons with disabilities.

17. Jeffrey Archer Passes Away at 86
- Renowned British novelist and former politician Jeffrey Archer passed away on 5 October 2026 at the age of 86.
- His debut novel was Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, published in 1976.
- His famous works include Kane and Abel and The Clifton Chronicles.
- Archer’s books sold more than 300 million copies worldwide.
- He was a former Conservative Party MP and became a life peer in 1992.
- His publisher was HarperCollins.
18. Filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao Passes Away
- Veteran Indian filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao passed away in October 2026 at the age of 94.
- He was born on 21 September 1931 in Gudur, Andhra Pradesh.
- He worked across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and English cinema.
- His notable films include Pushpaka Vimanam, Mayuri, Aditya 369 and Bhairava Dweepam.
- He collaborated with Kamal Haasan on films including Apoorva Sagodharargal and Michael Madana Kama Rajan.
- Pushpaka Vimanam (1987) is particularly known as a dialogue-free film.
