Last Minute Tips For IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam 2026

The countdown to the IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 has entered its final stage, with the examination scheduled for 10 and 11 October 2026. With only a few days left, this is not the time to overload yourself with new topics or completely change your preparation strategy. The right IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 Last-Minute Tips can help you make the most of your existing preparation by focusing on revision, accuracy, time management, mock-test analysis, and smart question selection.

Last Minute Tips For IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam 2026

The IBPS Clerk Prelims is a qualifying examination, and candidates need to clear the applicable sectional and overall state-wise cut-offs. The prelims consists of 100 questions for 100 marks, with 20 minutes separately allotted to English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Since candidates cannot transfer time between sections, effective question selection and sectional time management are extremely important.

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 Last-Minute Tips

The final days before the exam should be used to strengthen existing preparation rather than attempting to learn everything again. Candidates should focus on the areas that can directly improve their performance in the examination.

1. Avoid Starting New Topics

Do not begin completely new topics during the final days. New concepts or shortcuts can create confusion and may reduce confidence. Instead, revise the topics you have already studied and identify the areas where you are repeatedly making mistakes.

2. Practise With Sectional Timers

The IBPS Clerk Prelims has a separate 20-minute timer for each section. Candidates cannot use extra time from one section in another section or return to a section after its timer expires. Therefore, mocks and sectional tests should be practised with the same timing conditions as the actual examination.

3. Prioritise Accuracy Over Blind Attempts

Every incorrect answer attracts a 0.25-mark penalty. Therefore, attempting more questions is useful only when accuracy is maintained. Candidates should avoid blind guessing, particularly when they have no idea about the answer. The objective should be to maximise the net score, not simply the attempt count.

4. Analyse Every Mock Test

Taking a mock test without analysing it does not provide the maximum benefit. After every mock, identify:

  • Questions lost due to silly mistakes
  • Questions that consumed excessive time
  • Topics where accuracy is low
  • Questions that should have been skipped
  • Calculation-related errors
  • Questions incorrectly attempted due to guessing

5. Revise Short Notes and Important Concepts

The final revision should focus on formulas, calculation tricks, grammar rules, vocabulary, and frequently used approaches for puzzles and other important topics. Avoid spending hours reading lengthy study material when only a few days remain.

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 Section-Wise Strategy

English Language Strategy

The English Language section can provide quick marks if candidates select questions carefully. Start with questions that can be solved quickly, such as:

  • Error spotting
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Word swap
  • Sentence rearrangement
  • Other direct grammar-based questions

Reading Comprehension can be attempted after the quicker questions. Candidates should avoid spending too much time on a difficult passage. If a question requires excessive thinking between two options, it may be better to move ahead rather than risk losing time. Suggested attempt range: 25–28 questions with high accuracy.

Numerical Ability Strategy

Numerical Ability has 35 questions to be attempted within 20 minutes, making question selection extremely important. Candidates can consider the following order:

  1. Simplification/Approximation
  2. Number Series
  3. Easy Data Interpretation
  4. Arithmetic
  5. Lengthy or unfamiliar questions

Reasoning Ability Strategy

Puzzles and seating arrangements can consume significant time in the Reasoning section. Candidates should therefore scan the sets before committing to one. Spend the first 60–90 seconds identifying the easiest set. Prioritise standalone questions such as:

  • Inequality
  • Syllogism
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Blood Relations
  • Direction Sense

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 Negative Marking Strategy

Negative marking makes accuracy particularly important in the IBPS Clerk Prelims. The score can be calculated as: Net Score = Correct Answers − (Wrong Answers × 0.25) For example, if a candidate attempts 80 questions, gets 72 correct and 8 wrong: 72 − (8 × 0.25) = 70 marks Similarly, if a candidate attempts 85 questions with 75 correct and 10 incorrect: 75 − (10 × 0.25) = 72.5 marks

This shows why increasing attempts without maintaining accuracy can be counterproductive. Candidates should consider attempting a question when they have reasonable confidence in the answer or can eliminate options effectively.

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 Exam Day Checklist

Candidates should carefully follow the instructions mentioned on their individual call letters. The important documents and precautions include:

  • Printed admit card with photograph
  • One additional passport-size photograph
  • Original valid photo ID
  • Photocopy of ID, wherever required
  • Verification and biometric requirements as applicable
  • Checking the examination centre and reporting time in advance

Candidates should reach the examination centre well before the reporting time. The source recommends reaching around 45–60 minutes before the reporting time and checking the route beforehand if the centre is unfamiliar. Candidates should also avoid prohibited items such as:

  • Mobile phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Wristwatches
  • Metallic accessories
  • Caps

How to Manage the IBPS Clerk Computer-Based Test

Candidates should be comfortable with the computer-based examination interface before appearing for the actual test. Keep these points in mind:

  • Monitor the sectional timer.
  • Use the question palette efficiently.
  • Use the mark-for-review option when required.
  • Keep track of skipped questions.
  • Avoid repeatedly checking the timer.
  • Use the rough sheet systematically.
  • Inform the invigilator calmly in case of a genuine technical issue.

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 Last 24-Hour Strategy

The final 24 hours should be focused on maintaining confidence and avoiding unnecessary stress. Candidates should:

  • Avoid starting new topics.
  • Avoid learning new shortcuts.
  • Do not take multiple difficult mocks.
  • Revise only important short notes.
  • Check the admit card once again.
  • Confirm the exam date, shift and reporting time.
  • Keep documents ready.
  • Sleep properly.

Final Takeaway

The final days before the IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026 should not be used to learn everything from scratch. The objective should be to convert your existing preparation into maximum marks through smart revision, mock analysis, accurate attempts and effective time management. Keep your strategy simple: quick questions first, difficult questions later, avoid blind guessing, and move on when a question starts consuming too much time. Most importantly, stay calm. A clear mind, proper sleep and a well-planned exam strategy can make a significant difference on the examination day.

All the best for the IBPS Clerk Prelims 2026.

IBPS PO Mains Cut Off 2026: What Does It Mean?

The IBPS PO Mains Cut Off 2026 indicates the score candidates need to meet to remain in the selection process. It helps determine whether a candidate has performed well enough to move ahead to the next stage.

The cutoff generally depends on factors such as:

  • Overall performance: The marks scored by candidates in the Mains examination.
  • Paper difficulty: A tougher or easier question paper can influence the cutoff range.
  • Category-wise competition: Cutoffs may vary across different categories.
  • Selection requirements: Candidates must meet the qualifying criteria prescribed by IBPS for further consideration.

IBPS PO Mains Previous Year Cut Off

Previous-year cutoffs can help candidates understand how the qualifying marks have changed over different recruitment cycles. The Mains examination is evaluated out of 225 marks.

Category 2025 2024 2023 2022

OBC 75.75 66.00 62.25 69.75

SC 59.00 54.25 50.25 59.25
ST 51.75 47.50 41.00 53.25

Why Is IBPS PO Mains Cut Off Important?

The IBPS PO Mains Cut Off is an important benchmark for candidates assessing their performance after the examination. It gives an indication of the score needed to stay ahead of the competition and qualify for the subsequent selection stage.

The cutoff matters for several reasons:

  • Shortlisting: Candidates meeting the required marks can become eligible for the next stage.
  • Competition level: It reflects how competitive the Mains examination has been.
  • Score assessment: Candidates can compare their estimated marks with the expected range.
  • Preparation strategy: Those expecting to qualify can begin focusing on the next stage without waiting for the official cutoff.

Factors Affecting IBPS PO Mains Cut Off 2026

Several factors influence the final IBPS PO Mains cutoff. The major factors are:

  • Difficulty Level of the Exam : A comparatively difficult paper generally results in a lower cutoff, while an easier paper can push the cutoff higher. The IBPS PO Mains 2026 paper was reported to be around moderate to difficult overall, with some sections requiring considerable time and accuracy.
  • Number of Vacancies : The number of vacancies is another important factor. A higher number of vacancies can influence the number of candidates shortlisted for subsequent stages and may affect the cutoff.
  • Number of Candidates : The level of competition also affects the cutoff. The greater the number of candidates competing for the available posts, the higher the competition for each vacancy.
  • Overall Performance : The cutoff depends on the performance of candidates in the examination. If candidates perform better overall, the cutoff may rise.
  • Normalisation : Where applicable, IBPS uses its prescribed score calculation and normalisation process. Therefore, the raw score calculated by a candidate should not automatically be treated as the final score considered for cutoff purposes. IBPS has published a separate document explaining the process for arriving at scores for CRP PO/MT-XVI.

Note: IBPS PO Mains 2026 follows a revised exam pattern with 170 objective questions for 200 marks and a 25-mark descriptive test. The objective test is of 160 minutes, followed by a 30-minute descriptive test. As the section-wise marks have been revised, candidates should compare the 2026 cutoff with previous years carefully.

IBPS PO Mains Expected Cut Off 2026: What Score Should Candidates Target?

  • General: Aim for 80+ marks to maintain a stronger margin.
  • OBC: A target of around 80+ marks can be considered competitive.
  • EWS: Candidates can aim for 78+ marks.
  • SC/ST: A score above the higher side of the expected range can provide a better position.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in SBI PO Psychometric Tests

The SBI PO Psychometric Test 2026 is designed to assess the behavioural and personality traits of candidates beyond their performance in reasoning, aptitude, and general awareness. At this stage, candidates are expected to demonstrate qualities that are relevant to the responsibilities of a Probationary Officer, such as integrity, adaptability, teamwork, emotional stability, leadership, and sound judgement.

SBI PO Psychometric Test 2026: What Does It Actually Assess?

The psychometric assessment focuses on behavioural tendencies rather than academic knowledge. The questions may examine how a candidate reacts to workplace situations, handles pressure, interacts with colleagues and customers, takes responsibility, and makes decisions. Some of the major behavioural areas that candidates should be prepared for are:

  • Integrity and ethical judgement
  • Teamwork and cooperation
  • Leadership and responsibility
  • Customer orientation
  • Emotional stability
  • Adaptability to change
  • Decision-making ability
  • Accountability and ownership
  • Work discipline
  • Risk awareness

Think Like an SBI PO While Answering

A Probationary Officer may have to handle customers, employees, targets, operational issues, and regulatory requirements. Therefore, candidates should consider the professional approach required in such situations. A Good Professional Approach Includes:

  • Taking responsibility for mistakes.
  • Following rules and procedures.
  • Listening to different viewpoints.
  • Handling customers patiently.
  • Accepting constructive feedback.
  • Taking decisions after considering the available information.
  • Supporting team members when required.
  • Maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Escalating serious issues to the appropriate authority.
  • Balancing customer service with organisational policies.

Key Personality Traits to Reflect

1. Integrity: Candidates should demonstrate a strong sense of honesty and responsibility.

Avoid responses suggesting that you would:

  • Hide mistakes for personal benefit.
  • Break rules to achieve targets.
  • Misuse confidential information.
  • Ignore unethical behaviour.
  • Give unfair preference to someone.

2. Teamwork: A PO regularly works with colleagues and seniors.

A team-oriented approach includes:

  • Cooperating with colleagues.
  • Respecting different opinions.
  • Sharing responsibilities.
  • Accepting feedback.
  • Helping team members when needed.
  • Resolving disagreements professionally.

3. Leadership: Leadership does not necessarily mean controlling others or making every decision independently.

Good leadership involves:

  • Taking initiative.
  • Accepting responsibility.
  • Supporting team members.
  • Making informed decisions.
  • Communicating clearly.
  • Handling difficult situations calmly.

4. Customer Orientation: Customer-facing responsibilities require patience and professionalism.

Candidates should show:

  • Patience with customer queries.
  • Willingness to understand customer concerns.
  • Professional communication.
  • Problem-solving ability.
  • Respectful behaviour.
  • Ability to follow rules while addressing customer needs.

5. Emotional Stability: Banking jobs can involve targets, deadlines, customer complaints, and unexpected situations.

A balanced response pattern should reflect:

  • Calmness under pressure.
  • Control over emotional reactions.
  • Ability to handle criticism.
  • Willingness to solve problems.
  • Confidence during difficult situations.
  • Ability to recover from setbacks.

How to Handle Confusing Statements?

Some statements may appear similar or may test opposite sides of the same personality trait.

Do This:

  • Read the complete statement.
  • Identify the behaviour being tested.
  • Think about your usual response.
  • Select the option that genuinely represents you.
  • Keep your responses consistent with previous answers.

Avoid This:

  • Looking for hidden tricks in every question.
  • Changing answers because one option sounds more professional.
  • Trying to remember a fixed answer pattern.
  • Selecting “Strongly Agree” or “Strongly Disagree” for everything.

Why Consistency Matters in the SBI PO Psychometric Test?

Similar personality traits may be assessed through differently worded statements. Therefore, candidates should maintain consistency across the assessment.

Examples of Contradictory Responses

  • Statement 1: I willingly accept responsibility for my mistakes.
  • Statement 2: I prefer avoiding responsibility when something goes wrong.
  • Statement 1: I enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Statement 2: I prefer not to depend on or cooperate with colleagues.
  • Statement 1: I remain calm during difficult situations.
  • Statement 2: I become easily frustrated when facing pressure.

Common Reasons for Rejection at This Stage

While the psychometric test doesn’t have traditional pass or fail criteria, certain response patterns and profiles consistently lead to rejection. Understanding these rejection triggers helps candidates avoid inadvertent elimination despite having strong technical qualifications and banking aptitude.

  • Extreme Response Patterns: Consistently selecting only the most extreme options (strongly agree/strongly disagree) across all questions suggests inflexibility and black-and-white thinking. Banking requires nuanced decision-making and the ability to see multiple perspectives, especially when dealing with diverse customers and complex financial situations.
  • Low Stress Tolerance Indicators: Responses suggesting inability to handle pressure, frequent emotional reactions to workplace challenges, or avoidance of responsibility during difficult situations. The banking sector involves high-stakes decisions, regulatory scrutiny, and demanding customers, making stress resilience essential.
  • Poor Team Collaboration Scores: Profiles indicating strong preference for isolated work, difficulty accepting feedback, or reluctance to support colleagues. Modern banking operates through collaborative teams, cross-functional projects, and shared accountability structures.
  • Integrity and Ethics Red Flags: Any responses suggesting willingness to bend rules for personal gain, hide mistakes from supervisors, or prioritize personal interests over customer welfare. Given the fiduciary responsibility of banking roles, even minor integrity concerns can result in immediate rejection.
  • Excessive Aggressiveness or Passivity: Profiles showing either overly aggressive sales approaches that might pressure customers inappropriately, or extreme passivity that suggests inability to meet targets or advocate for bank interests when necessary.
  • Customer Service Incompatibility: Responses indicating impatience with repetitive questions, frustration with less knowledgeable customers, or preference for minimal human interaction. Banking success depends heavily on positive customer relationships and service excellence.
  • Risk-Taking Extremes: Either excessive risk aversion that might prevent necessary business decisions, or dangerous risk appetite that could expose the bank to unnecessary losses. Banks need employees who can balance prudent risk management with business growth objectives.

How to Approach the Psychometric Test with the Right Mindset

To perform well in the SBI PO Psychometric Test, candidates should stay calm, genuine and self-aware to reflect their true personality and professional values. Key Points to Remember:

  • Stay relaxed and confident throughout the test.
  • Read each statement carefully before responding.
  • Avoid guessing or overthinking the answer instinctively.
  • Be honest and consistent in your responses.
  • Reflect traits like integrity, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Don’t try to create a “perfect” image; focus on authenticity.
  • Prepare through self-reflection to understand your behaviour patterns.
  • Maintain a positive and balanced outlook in every answer.
