- The Department of Posts launched the new 24 Speed Post on March 17, 2026, to provide guaranteed next-day delivery for urgent parcels and important documents. The launch event was held at the Rangbhawan Auditorium in New Delhi.
- In the first phase, the service will operate in six major cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with plans to expand to more cities in the future.
- The service is designed for time-sensitive consignments and uses dedicated processing windows and priority air transportation to ensure faster delivery compared to standard postal timelines.
- Key features include next-day guaranteed delivery (D+1), a 48-hour delivery option (48 Speed Post), OTP-based secure delivery confirmation, end-to-end tracking with SMS alerts, a Buy Now Pay Later facility for business customers, free pickup for bulk consignments, API integration for companies, and a money-back guarantee in case of delivery delays.
India’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.9% in February 2026

- The World Bank, along with the India and Uttar Pradesh government, has launched the Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Program with an investment of $299.66 million to tackle rising air pollution.

India Submits First National Report on Nagoya Protocol
- India submitted its first national report on the Nagoya Protocol to the Convention on Biological Diversity on February 27, 2026.
- The report was prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority and covers progress from November 1, 2017 to December 31, 2025.
- The protocol requires countries to report under Article 29 on how they implement Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) rules, ensuring that benefits from the use of genetic resources and traditional knowledge are shared fairly with local communities and provider countries.
- India’s ABS framework is supported by the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, along with the Biological Diversity Rules, 2024 and ABS Regulations, 2025.
- The governance system follows a three-tier structure involving the National Biodiversity Authority, State Biodiversity Boards, and local Biodiversity Management Committees.
India Submits Seventh National Report to Convention on Biological Diversity

India’s Trade Deficit Widens to $27.1 Billion in February as Imports Surge
- India’s trade deficit widened to $27.1 billion in February 2026, according to data released by the Department of Commerce.
- The increase was mainly due to a sharp rise in imports while exports recorded a slight decline.
- India’s exports during the month stood at $36.61 billion, showing a 0.81% contraction compared to the same period last year.
- In contrast, imports surged by 24% to $63.71 billion, largely driven by higher purchases of gold and silver.
- The widening deficit nearly doubled from about $14 billion in February 2025, highlighting the growing gap between the country’s imports and exports.
India’s Wholesale Inflation Rises to 2.13% in February 2026
- India’s wholesale inflation, measured by the Wholesale Price Index, rose to 2.13% in February 2026, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This marks the fourth consecutive month of increase in wholesale prices.
- The rise in WPI inflation was mainly driven by higher prices of food articles, non-food items, and manufactured products. Food inflation increased to 2.19% in February, up from 1.55% in January, with price rises seen in items such as pulses, potatoes, eggs, meat, and fish.

- The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association announced on March 16, 2026, that Arun Mammen has been re-elected as its Chairman.
