Ambedkar Jayanti 2021: 14th April – Significance and Importance of this Day

Ambedkar Jayanti which is also known as Bhim Jayanti is celebrated on 14th April to commemorate BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on 14th April 1981. This is Baba Saheb’s 130th birth anniversary. 14th April is also celebrated as ‘equality day’ as a tribute to Baba Saheb’s struggle for equality throughout his life. Senior figures like Prime Minister & President pay their respect at the statue of Ambedkar at the Parliament of India in New Delhi. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, posthumously in 1990.

Babasaheb Ambedkar was a social reformer, economist, and politician. He is considered the principal architect of the Indian constitution and therefore is known as ‘Father of the Indian Constitution.’ He led the campaign against social discrimination towards the untouchables (Dalit). He was independent of India’s first Minister of Law & Justice. He also opposed income tax for low-income groups. To stabilize the economy, he made contributions to excise duty policies and land revenue tax. Dr. Ambedkar’s life and legacy are an inspiration to everyone that the formation of a society with equality is the way forward and discrimination based on caste should be eliminated. His ideas and values have influenced and still are influencing many political reforms. Ambedkar Jayanti is a reminder that we must fulfill our responsibilities towards our country.
