1. Mary Kom Strikes Gold at Asian Women’s Boxing Championships

i. M.C. Mary Kom (48kg) notched up her fifth gold medal at the Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in Vietnam. She has defeated North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi.
ii. This is Mary Kom’s first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games. Mary Kom’s last medal came in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.

2. Prince of Wales Charles Arrives India on 2-Day Visit

i. Prince of Wales, Charles Philip Arthur George arrived in New Delhi on a 2-day visit to India. This visit is a part of their 10 day tour to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and India.

ii. This visit will be the 9th visit of the Prince of Wales to India. The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

i. H.S Prannoy defeated World No 2 Kidambi Srikanth in a thrilling finale to claim the men’s singles title at the 82nd Senior National Championshipin Nagpur, Maharashtra.

ii. Second seed Prannoy, who achieved his career-best ranking of World No. 11 recently, saw off top seed Srikanth 21-15 16- 21 21-7 in a 49-minute clash.

4. India Unveil Logo, Mascot and Song for AIBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championship

i. Assam’s famed one-horned rhino was unveiled as the official mascot of the 2017 AIBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championship in Guwahati, Assam. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh released the championship’s official logo and anthem, to mark the countdown for India’s first youth world boxing championship from November 19 to 26.

ii. The official mascot, named Guppy, is a female version of Assam’s one-horned rhino. The logo infuses two key elements– the strength of an Indian woman in the form of a female boxer and the culture of Assam through the ‘gamosa’, a hand-woven piece of cloth in the state.

iii. The World Championship’s official anthem is ‘Make Some Noise’. It is composed by Shaan and rendered by renowned singer Sunidhi Chauhan.

7. Ola Ties up with Microsoft to Build Connected Vehicle Platform

i. Together with Microsoft, Ola is building a new connected vehicle platform for car manufacturers worldwide. As part of the partnership, Ola announced that Microsoft will be its preferred cloud provider.

ii. At the heart of the partnership is Ola Play, that will leverage Microsoft Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). It will also provide auto manufacturers with custom digital experiences for their customers.

10. Chennai Included in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network For Contribution in Music

i. 64 cities from 44 countries have been designated as UNESCO Creative Cities by Director-General, Irina Bokova. Chennai is the third Indian city on the list of UNESCO Creative Cities list after Jaipur and Varanasi.

ii. After this, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network now counts a total of 180 cities in 72 countries. Few famous cities included in the list are- Auckland (New Zealand), Cairo (Egypt), Cape Town (South Africa), Istanbul (Turkey), Yamagata City (Japan).

11. Paytm Introduces BHIM UPI for Seamless Money Transfer

i. Digital payment platform Paytm introduced payments using BHIM UPI on its platform, using which users can create their own Paytm BHIM UPI ID on the app, which will be issued by Paytm Payments Bank.
ii. With Paytm BHIM UPI, users can now make seamless and instant money transfers directly between two bank accounts, with no waiting time to add beneficiary.

12. India Signs Loan Agreement with World Bank for US $119 Million

i. A Financing Agreement for IBRD loan of US$ 119 million (equivalent) for the “Odisha Higher Education Programme for Excellence & Equity (OHEPEE) Project” was signed with the World Bank.

ii. The Objective of the project is to improve the quality of ‘students’ equitable access to selected institutions and enhance governance of the higher education system in Odisha. The closing date for the project is 30th November, 2022.

ii. According to a statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry, Sushma Swaraj and Toure exchanged views on a broad range of subjects covering bilateral friendship and cooperation.

14. Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia named Finance Secretary

i. Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia has been designated as the new Finance Secretary. Adhia is a 1981 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre. The vacancy was caused following the superannuation of Ashok Lavasa in October 2017.

ii. There are five departments under the Finance Ministry- Expenditure, Economic Affairs, Financial Services, Revenue and Department of Investment and Public Asset management (DIPAM).

ii. The customer friendly app, launched recently in Kolkata on CIL’s Foundation Day, helps achieve transparency in despatch operations, as a tool to monitor, whether the despatches are made on the fair principle of ‘First in First Out’.

16. Bengaluru Beats San Francisco in Confidence to Go Digital

India’s Silicon Valley – ‘Bengaluru’ – is the best host among 45 cities worldwide, according to a report from the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU). Bengaluru expressed the highest confidence in their digital environment based on people and skills, financial environment, innovation and entrepreneurship and new technology development.
ii. San Francisco came in second followed by two other Indian cities, Mumbai and New Delhi while Tokyo, Yokohama and Berlin brought up the rear.
