Independence Day 2026 Theme Highlights India’s Youth Power

India will celebrate its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with the theme “Yuva Shakti: Leading the journey to Viksit Bharat@2047.”

Dr Srinivasa Kumar Tummala, an eminent oceanographer and distinguished scientist, has assumed charge as Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
He has more than three decades of experience in remote sensing, satellite oceanography, coastal hazards and disaster management.
Following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, he served as Project Manager for establishing India’s advanced Tsunami Early Warning System at INCOIS.
He later served as Director of ESSO-INCOIS, expanding ocean information services including fishing advisories and multi-hazard mapping.
Tummala also headed the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System Secretariat under UNESCO-IOC in Perth.
