NZP Saathi App and Self-Ticketing Kiosks Launched at National Zoological Park, New Delhi

The National Zoological Park has launched the NZP Saathi App and self-ticketing kiosks to enhance visitor convenience and improve the overall zoo experience.
Inaugurated by Kirti Vardhan Singh, the app serves as a digital guide with features such as an interactive zoo map, smart navigation, real-time guidance, educational content, and customizable tours including Express, Family, Grand Zoo, and My Tour options.
The zoo has also introduced UPI-enabled self-ticketing kiosks and free Wi-Fi to facilitate cashless ticket purchases, reduce queues, and streamline visitor entry.

Amit Shah to Launch Digital Land Port Management System (LPMS)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi on June 9, 2026, marking a major step towards digital governance and trade facilitation.
Developed to modernize operations at India’s land ports, LPMS will digitize cargo, passenger, and vehicle processing through features such as online slot booking, digital payments, cargo tracking, single-window clearance, and real-time monitoring.
The platform will be integrated with ICEGATE, Unified Logistics Interface Platform, and vehicle databases to streamline cross-border trade and travel.
Alongside the launch, new stakeholder facilities will be inaugurated at the Dawki Land Port and Srimantapur Land Port, enhancing support for traders, transporters, and passengers.

Akashvani Celebrates 90 Years of Broadcasting Excellence in India

India’s public broadcaster Akashvani completed 90 years of service on June 8, 2026, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s communication journey.
Originally renamed as All India Radio in 1936 and officially adopting the name Akashvani in 1956, it has grown into one of the world’s largest public broadcasting networks.
Operating under Prasar Bharati, Akashvani today runs 591 stations, covers 98% of India’s population, and broadcasts in 23 languages and 146 dialects.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands Record India’s Lowest Fertility Rate in NFHS-6

According to the latest NFHS-6 data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded India’s lowest Total Fertility Rate (TFR) at 0.9, down from 1.3 in NFHS-5 and 1.4 in NFHS-4.
The figure is well below the replacement level of 2.1, indicating potential long-term population decline.
The survey also showed a shrinking child population and a rising share of elderly residents, signaling demographic ageing. Experts attribute the decline to smaller family preferences, better access to family planning, higher female education, improved economic conditions, and greater financial independence.

Kerala Launches HAWK, India’s First Judiciary-Integrated Wildlife Offence Management System

The Kerala Forest Department has launched HAWK (Hostile Activity Watch Kernel), India’s first judiciary-integrated wildlife offence management system, marking a major advancement in wildlife protection and digital governance.
The platform digitally tracks wildlife crime cases from the filing of a Preliminary Offence Report to final court judgments by integrating forest department records with the District Court Management System through an API.
Developed with support from the Wildlife Trust of India and NTT Data, HAWK enables real-time case monitoring, investigation tracking, witness management, and crime trend analysis.

West Bengal Joins Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, Becomes 36th State to Implement Scheme

West Bengal is set to become the 36th State/Union Territory to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) through a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Health Authority (NHA) and the state government.
Recognized as the world’s largest publicly funded health assurance scheme, PM-JAY provides health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary hospitalization.
The move is expected to benefit millions of residents by offering cashless treatment at empaneled hospitals nationwide, reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, and enhancing access to quality medical care through portability of benefits across India.

President Appoints Six Additional Judges as Permanent Judges of Bombay High Court

The President of India has approved the appointment of six additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges, as notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice on June 6, 2026.
Acting under Article 217(1) of the Constitution, the judges elevated include Justice Nivedita Prakash Mehta, Justice Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Justice Ashwin Damodar Bhobe, Justice Rohit Wasudeo Joshi, Justice Advait Mahendra Sethna, and Justice Pravin Sheshrao Patil.

India’s AI-powered consumer grievance redressal platform, e-Jagriti, developed by the Department of Consumer Affairs, won the Silver Award at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2026 under the category of Government Process Re-engineering through Digital Transformation.
Launched on 1 January 2025, e-Jagriti integrates four legacy consumer dispute systems into a unified, paperless platform.
It has registered over 4.15 lakh users, handled 2.29 lakh cases, and achieved a disposal rate of 90.75%.
With features such as AI chatbots, multilingual support, real-time tracking, and online hearings, the platform has significantly improved consumer justice delivery, including access for NRIs.

SIPRI Report 2026: India Widens Nuclear Lead Over Pakistan with 190 Warheads

According to the SIPRI Yearbook 2026, India’s nuclear arsenal increased to an estimated 190 warheads as of January 2026, compared to Pakistan’s 170 warheads.
Both countries continued modernizing their nuclear capabilities during 2025. SIPRI noted that India’s nuclear strategy is increasingly focused on longer-range missile systems and addressing strategic challenges posed by China while maintaining deterrence against Pakistan.
The report also highlighted growing investments in advanced military technologies.
India’s defence expenditure rose by 8.9% to $92.1 billion in 2025, making it the world’s fifth-largest military spender.

Indian Navy Invites Domestic Industry to Develop Indigenous 80-mm Aero Rockets for MiG-29K Fleet

The Indian Navy has launched a major push for defence indigenisation by inviting domestic firms to design and manufacture 80-mm aero rockets for its MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB carrier-based fighter aircraft operated from INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant.
Through an Expression of Intent issued by the Naval Armament Inspectorate in Goa, the Navy aims to replace foreign-sourced rockets with fully indigenous systems.
The 80-mm aero rockets are dual-purpose air-launched weapons used against armoured vehicles, infrastructure, and troop targets.
The initiative strengthens India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme while ensuring improved operational readiness and domestic production capability.
