Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 9th March 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. FLIPPANT : क्षुद्र
Meaning: showing or having a rude attitude of not being serious esp. by trying to be amusing when most people expect you to be serious
Synonyms: rude, archness
Antonyms: respect, regard
Example:We had lost thousands of dollars, so we did not appreciate his flippant remark about “better luck next time.”


2. REPREHEND : निन्दा करना
Meaning: to express your strong official disapproval of someone or something
Synonyms: reject, disapprove
Antonyms: accept, approve
Example:The agency was reprehended for taking on average two years to deal with complaints.


3. REPRIMAND : फटकार
Meaning:to tell someone, esp. officially, that his or her behavior is wrong and not acceptable
Synonyms: admonish, censure
Antonyms: approve, commend
Example:The committee reprimanded and censured him for his uncooperative attitude.


4. GENEROUS : उदार
Meaning:willing to give money, help, kindness, etc., especially more than is usual or expected
Synonyms: giving, kind
Antonyms: unkind, greedy
Example:The charity will go under unless a generous donor can be found within the next few months.


5. COURTEOUS : विनम्र
Meaning: polite and showing respect
Synonyms: respectful, polite
Antonyms: impolite, arrogant
Example:Although she often disagreed with me, she was always courteous.


6. RETICENT : अल्पभाषी
Meaning:unwilling to speak about your thoughts or feelings
Synonyms: hesistant, reserved
Antonyms: extrovert, outgoing
Example: Most of the students were reticent about answering questions.


7. CAJOLE : फुसलाना
Meaning: to persuade someone to do something they might not want to
do, by pleasant talk and (sometimes false) promises
Synonyms: deceive, influence
Antonyms: repulse, dissuade
Example: He really knows how to cajole people into doing what he wants.


8. DIFFIDENT : संकोची
Meaning:shy and not confident of your abilities
Synonyms: demure, meek
Antonyms: bold, brave
Example:Merciless to small absurdities, he was often oblique and diffident on the big issues.


9. MODEST : विनयपूर्ण
Meaning: not usually talking about or making obvious your own abilities and achievements
Synonyms: humble, prudent
Antonyms: conceited, immodest
Example:Although an outstanding scientist, he’s a modest man.


10. OBTRUDE : हस्तक्षेप करना
Meaning:to make something or to become too noticeable, especially by interrupting
Synonyms: intervene, interfere
Antonyms: ignore, leave
Example:We know how the newspapers obtrude on the grief of others and do all sorts of things to obtrude on privacy.
