Local Language Requirement

Proficiency in the local language specified for the respective State is an essential qualification.

  • Candidates who have studied the concerned State language in Standard VIII or at any level above Standard VIII from a Government-recognised Board or School will be considered proficient in that local language.
  • Candidates possessing a certificate confirming that they studied the local language in Standard VIII or any higher level will also be considered proficient.
  • Candidates who do not fulfil the local language proficiency requirement at the time of selection will be given six months from the date of joining to acquire the required proficiency.
  • The concerned RRB Board may extend this period within the applicable rules, but the extension cannot go beyond the candidate’s probation period.

IBPS RRB Negative Marking 2026

There is a negative marking of 1/4th or 0.25 of the marks assigned to the question for every wrong answer in the Preliminary, Main and Single-Level Objective Examinations. There is no penalty for unanswered questions.

IBPS RRB Normalisation 2026

If examinations are conducted in multiple sessions, the corrected scores obtained by candidates are normalised using the equi-percentile method. Scores up to two decimal places are considered for calculation. For Office Assistant, only Main Examination marks are considered for final merit. For Officer Scale I, Main Examination marks are considered for interview shortlisting and final merit. For Scale II and III, Single-Level Examination marks are considered for interview shortlisting and final merit.

IBPS RRB Interview 2026

The interview is applicable only to Officer Scale I, II and III candidates. The interview carries 100 marks, with minimum qualifying marks of 40% for general candidates and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates. The weightage of the Online Examination and Interview is 80:20. The final score for Officer Scale I is based on the Main Examination and Interview, while for Scale II and III it is based on the Single-Level Examination and Interview.
