UPSC Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria
The educational and professional requirements for the two law posts are different. Both vacancies require candidates to have a law qualification and relevant Bar practice, but the Assistant Public Prosecutor requires three years of Bar experience, whereas the Public Law Officer requires two years of actual practice at the Bar.

Note: For the Assistant Public Prosecutor post, the notification specifies a Degree in Law from a recognized University/Institute and three years’ experience at the Bar. Experience as a Government Advocate is listed as a desirable qualification.

UPSC Recruitment 2026: Selection Process
The recruitment will be conducted through direct recruitment by selection. UPSC may shortlist candidates based on their applications, higher qualifications, higher relevant experience or by conducting a Recruitment Test, depending on the number of applications and the Commission’s requirements.

If a Recruitment Test is conducted, candidates must achieve the minimum suitability level prescribed by the Commission at both the Recruitment Test and Interview stages.
