3rd December – World Day of the Handicapped 2021

The World Handicapped day also known as the International Day of Persons with disabilities is observed every year on 3rd December globally. The day is marked and observed to support critical issues which are related to the inclusion of persons with disabilities. It also promotes awareness-about disability issues and draws attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.  The day was firstly observed in1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. 

World Day Of The Handicapped 2021

The theme of the World Day of the Handicapped 2021 is the Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities. As mentioned above, the day is observed to promote awareness-about disability issues and draw attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all. The day promotes the right of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, and raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

In this context WHO has joined the UN in observing this day each year, to reinforce the importance of securing the rights of people with disabilities, with an aim that the people with disabilities can participate fully, equally, and effectively in a society with others, and face no barriers in all aspects of their lives.
