IBPS to Use Aadhaar Authentication for Exams

The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, has taken a significant step towards improving transparency and fairness in the recruitment process for banking exams. In a recent notification, the government has authorised the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to use Aadhaar-based authentication, including Yes/No validation and e-KYC authentication, on a voluntary basis for verifying the identity of candidates during recruitment and examination processes.

IBPS to Use Aadhaar Authentication for Exams

The Aadhaar authorisation for IBPS Exams follows approval from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) after consulting with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It brings an added layer of security and integrity.

One of the biggest challenges in public recruitment exams is identity fraud, which often leads to undeserving candidates entering the system and deserving ones being unfairly eliminated. With Aadhaar-based verification, IBPS can now ensure that the person who registers for the exam is the same individual appearing for it, thus significantly reducing the chances of impersonation or proxy candidates.

Bank Mahapack

Enhancing Security in IBPS Recruitment

The initiative places IBPS in the category of a ‘Public Examination Authority’ under the newly enacted Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, a framework designed to combat cheating, impersonation, and malpractice in competitive exams.

Moreover, since the Aadhaar system is linked to biometric and demographic data, even basic Yes/No authentication can effectively validate the candidate’s identity without disclosing personal details. This maintains privacy while enhancing verification accuracy.

The authorisation for Aadhaar-based authentication by IBPS marks a progressive move toward ensuring fairness, transparency, and security in public recruitment exams.

Voluntary Use of Aadhaar for IBPS Exams- Not Compulsory

It is important to note that Aadhaar authentication will be used on a voluntary basis. This means candidates who do not wish to authenticate using Aadhaar will still be able to participate in the IBPS recruitment process using other approved identity documents. The aim is not to impose, but rather to facilitate smoother, faster, and safer verification for those who choose to use Aadhaar.

Can Final Year Students Apply for SBI PO?

The SBI PO 2025 notification has officially been released, and the application window is open from 14 June to 14 July 2025. As aspirants gear up for one of the most competitive banking exams in the country, many come from diverse educational backgrounds, some are graduates, others postgraduates, and some are still pursuing their final year of studies. And amid all these varying profiles, one question continues to pop up every year: Can final-year students apply for SBI PO? Let’s clear the confusion.

Final Year Students Can Apply – But With a Condition

Yes, final year or final semester students are allowed to apply for SBI PO 2025, but only provisionally. As per the official notification, candidates must have passed their graduation on or before September 30, 2025. This means if you’re currently in your last semester and are confident that your results will be declared before the said date, you’re eligible. However, at the time of document verification or interview, you’ll be required to produce a valid proof, either a degree certificate, mark sheet, or a provisional certificate confirming that you’ve cleared your graduation by the cutoff date.

This provision also extends to those pursuing Integrated Dual Degrees (IDD), provided the final passing date is on or before September 30, 2025. Even Chartered Accountants (CAs) are eligible under the same timeline condition.

Can Final Year Students Apply for SBI PO

Age Limit for SBI PO

While there is some flexibility in educational qualifications, the age limit does not come with any provisional clauses. You must strictly meet the age criteria as of April 1, 2025, without exception. No relaxation is provided for candidates awaiting age eligibility. Whether you’re a final year student or a postgraduate, if your age does not fall within the permissible range, you’re not eligible to apply. Here’s the category-wise age limit you need to meet:

Category Age Limit / Relaxation
Minimum Age 21 years (born on or before April 1, 2004)
Maximum Age 30 years (born on or after April 2, 1995)
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 3 years relaxation (up to 33 years max)
SC/ST 5 years relaxation (up to 35 years max)
PwBD (UR/EWS) 10 years relaxation
PwBD (OBC) 13 years relaxation
PwBD (SC/ST) 15 years relaxation
Ex-Servicemen 5 years relaxation

What are the Minimum Marks Required for SBI PO?

Here’s some relief for all academic profiles, SBI does not prescribe any minimum percentage of marks in graduation for the PO recruitment.

Whether you’ve just cleared your exams or graduated with flying colours, all candidates are considered equally eligible as long as they hold a valid degree. There’s no cutoff based on marks at the application stage. So yes, don’t let your graduation score hold you back if you meet the other eligibility criteria.

SBI Rejects Candidate Over Poor Credit Score

The Madras High Court has recently upheld the decision of the State Bank of India (SBI) to cancel the appointment of a candidate for the Circle Based Officer (CBO) post due to his poor credit history. Although the candidate had cleared both the written exam and interview, his selection was withdrawn after SBI received his Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited (CIBIL) report highlighting past loan defaults.

This incident has now become an important example for banking aspirants, underlining that financial behaviour, especially a candidate’s credit history, is being treated as a key eligibility factor in recruitment for positions that involve the handling of public funds.

Why SBI Rejected the Candidate?

After the final selection, SBI conducted a background check and received a CIBIL report that disclosed the candidate’s poor credit history. The report revealed the following:

  • He had taken multiple personal loans ranging from ₹90,000 to ₹1.5 lakh while serving at another bank, but failed to repay on time.
  • He had also defaulted on a credit card payment of approximately ₹40,000.

SBI cancelled his appointment as per Clause 1(E) of the official recruitment notification, which clearly stated that:

“Candidates with a record of default in repayment of loans/credit card dues and/or adverse reports from CIBIL or other external agencies shall not be eligible for appointment.”

Despite clearing all dues before applying, the candidate’s previous defaults affected his eligibility. The Madras High Court ruled in favour of SBI, stating that candidates must possess a clean track record, not just clear dues. The judge also mentioned that individuals handling public money must exhibit financial discipline themselves.

What is a CIBIL Report and Why Does It Matter?

In recent years, especially in banking and finance sector recruitments, a candidate’s credit history has started playing a more significant role in final appointments. A CIBIL report reflects how responsibly an individual has managed loans, EMIs, and credit card payments in the past. For posts that involve handling public money, like SBI CBO or PO, this becomes a direct measure of the candidate’s trustworthiness and financial discipline.

Term Meaning
CIBIL Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited – maintains credit records of individuals and generates credit reports.
CIBIL Score A 3-digit number (300–900) showing your creditworthiness. A higher score reflects better credit history.
Credit History Past record of repayment of loans, EMIs, and credit card dues.
Loan Default Failing to repay a loan or credit card dues on time. Multiple defaults lower your CIBIL score.

What Aspirants Must Learn from This Incident?

With this court decision, it becomes clear that just clearing written exams and interviews is not enough for final selection in banking jobs. Credit history, which was earlier overlooked by many aspirants, now holds real weight in final appointments. Here’s what aspirants need to ensure:

  • Read the recruitment notification carefully, especially the eligibility clauses.
  • Check your CIBIL score regularly from official sources.
  • Avoid any loan or credit card default, and try to repay all dues on time.
  • If you have cleared past dues, keep NOCs or settlement proof ready.
  • Don’t ignore your financial profile; maintain financial discipline just as you prepare for exams.
